DAEGU, South Korea, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- "I have nothing to say right now. I need some time."
This was Bolt's response on Sunday night after a sensational1 disqualification from the men's 100m final for a false start at the Daegu World Championships.
The Jamaican sprinter3 offered no more comment, according to a statement released by the world's athletics4 ruling body IAAF.
Bolt, who turned 25 on Aug. 21, immediately returned to the warm-up track beside the Daegu Stadium after he was expelled.
About the defense5 of his 200m world title which begins on Friday (Sept. 2), Bolt said, "How will I go? It's on Friday right? Then we'll have to see on Friday."
With the brief comments, Bolt left for the Athletes' Village by car.
The IAAF said in the statement that it was disappointed that Bolt false-started in the final of the 100m. It also said it is important to remember that a sport's credibility depends on its rules, and they must also be applied6 consistently and fairly for all athletes.
The current false start rule, called Rule 162.7, has been in effect since Jan. 1 2010, and all elite7 athletes have had the chance to adjust. In extraordinary cases, the IAAF Council has the right to make interim8 changes to Technical Rules, pending9 official approval by IAAF Congress, it said.
According to the IAAF false start rule, except in combined events, any athlete responsible for a false start shall be disqualified.
While in combined events only one false start per race shall be allowed without disqualification of the athlete(s) responsible for the false start. Any athlete(s) making further false starts in the race shall be disqualified from the race.
The combined events refer to the heptathlon for women, and the decathlon for men.
Bolt's disqualification marked a dramatic ending to his ambition to snatch another sprint2 double in the 100m and 200m, after his legendary10 wins in Berlin two years ago.
At the Berlin World Championships, he created the world records in the 100m and 200m, 9.58sec and 19.19sec, respectively.
