Mondeo, S-Max cars recalled over ABS concerns

 　　BEIJING, March 31 (Xinhua) -- Changan Ford¹ Mazda Automobile² Co. Ltd. will recall 62,445 vehicles in China from April 1 due to a problem that could lead to erroneous warnings on the vehicles' dashboard displays that their anti-lock braking systems (ABS) won't work, China's top quality watchdog said Saturday.

　　The company's recall affects 58,949 Mondeo vehicles and 3,496 S-Max models produced between Oct. 5, 2007, and July 26, 2009, according to a statement issued by the General Administration of Quality Supervision³, Inspection⁴ and Quarantine.

　　Due to faulty materials, the ABS control module⁵ motor may fail to function, which will result in an illuminated⁶ ABS warning indicator⁷, while the ABS can still work, said the statement.

　　Changan Ford Mazda Automobile Co. Ltd., a joint⁸ venture between the three companies, said it will inspect and replace hydraulic⁹ control units in the affected¹⁰ vehicles free of charge and that letters will be mailed to alert affected owners.

　　Consumers can call their respective dealers¹¹ for a service appointment.
