American boxer Weidman sets sights on Brazilian champion Silva

 RIO DE JANEIRO, July 18 (Xinhua) -- American Chris Weidman wants to challenge Brazilian champion Anderson Silva for the UFC world middleweight title, local media reported Wednesday.

The 28-year-old continued his undefeated UFC record last week by defeating Mark Munoz with a second round knockout.

Following the bout¹ Silva's compatriot and World No.3 Vitor Belfort

challenged Weidman to be his next opponent.

"It's great to know that Belfort wants to take me on but I don't want to talk about that now. I only want to think about fighting Anderson Silva," Weidman told Newsday.

Weidman is undefeated in nine professional mixed martial² arts bouts³.

Silva, who has not lost since 2006, successfully defended his championship belt with a second-round knockout of American Chael Sonnen in Las Vegas earlier this month.
