MOSCOW, April 21 (Xinhua) -- All the 13 workers trapped in a coal mine in south central Russia have been rescued, local authorities said Sunday.
All the miners were alive, and no one was hurt, regional emergency authorities said, adding the rescue operation was over.
Preliminary reports said nine people were trapped in the Zarechnaya mine in Kemerovo region following a roof collapse1 accident that took place at 16:25 Moscow time (1225 GMT) Sunday.
Emergency officials later put the trapped figure at 13, saying rescuers managed to connect with all of them and continued clearing the debris2.
A total of 127 people were working underground when the accident took place.
Coal mine safety has long been a issue for concern in Russia. Kemerovo, as a major coal producing region in Russia, witnessed several devastating3 accident in the past.
On February 2005, 25 miners and rescuers were killed in a blaze triggered by methane-air mixture explosion at the Yesaulskaya mine in the Kemerovo region.
In March 2007, 110 miners died in the Ulyanovskaya mine in the same region, the deadliest coal mine blast over the past 75 years.
In March 2013, four workers were killed in a floor at a coal mine in the Kemerovo Region.
