 　　Samsung may be forced to make changes to the software running on its smartphones in order to keep selling them in the US, after an appeals court granted Apple an injunction following its 2012 patent victory over its rival.

　　In a significant legal victory for the iPhone maker¹, a majority ruling by the US federal circuit court of appeals said that the “public interest strongly favours an injunction” on the use of certain phone features.

　　However, one of the three judges disagreed, siding with the original judgment³ by District Judge Lucy Koh that Apple failed to show that Samsung’s copying of “minor features” of the iPhone, such as sliding to unlock the homescreen, caused “irreparable harm” to its sales.

　　That dissent⁴ may provide hope for Samsung that it can win an appeal in a higher court. The South Korean electronics company called the injunction “unfounded”, saying it had “invested heavily” in innovative⁵ mobile technology for decades.
