鲨鱼的攻击

There are nearly 400 different types of sharks, but only about 30 types are known to have attacked human beings.

将近有400种不同种类的鲨鱼，但据人们了解仅有大约30种鲨鱼攻击过人类。

Many people know that the most dangerous shark is the great white shark, probably because they have seen the film Jaws¹.

大多数人都知道最危险的鲨鱼是大白鲨，可能是因为他们看过电影《大白鲨》的缘故。

However, two other sharks are also rather dangerous: the tiger shark and the bull² shark.

可是，还有其他两种凶猛的鲨鱼：虎鲨和公牛鲨。

Contrary to what many people might assume³, evidence shows that sharks seldom attck humans.

与大多人的猜想相反，证据表明鲨鱼很少袭击人类。

There are three types of shark attacks.

鲨鱼攻击人类有三种情形。

In the main type, the shark attacks you because it mistakes you for a fish, but when it tastes human flesh it decides to give up and swims away.

在最主要的情形中，鲨鱼之所以发起攻击，是因为它误认为你是一条鱼，但当它尝到的是人的味道时就决定放弃并游开。

In the second type, the shark pushes you with it nose to find out if you are fit to be eaten, and then bites you if it thinks you are.

在第二种情形中，鲨鱼用鼻子推你，看你适不适合作为它的食物，然后，如果它认为你是，就会咬你。

In the third type, the shark waits for you to swim by, and then attacks you suddenly

在第三种情形中，鲨鱼只等你游到身边，随即猛地发起攻击。

The last two types of attack more often result in the death of humans.

最后两种攻击情形经常导致人类丧命。

1 jaws   

n.口部；嘴

2 bull

3 assume   

vt.假装；假定，设想；承担；呈现，采取

参考例句：

• I assume that he won't cheat you.想来他是不会骗你的。
• We can't assume anything in this case.在这种情况下我们不可能做出假设。
