China lodges1 solemn protest with Vietnam over deadly violence
The Chinese government has launched a formal protest over the recent violence in Vietnam against Chinese companies.
At least one Chinese national in Vietnam has been killed and more than 100 others injured amid the anti-China protests which have been taking place in several Vietnamese provinces this week.

"The Vietnamese side has an inescapable responsibility for the beating, smashing, looting and burning targeted at China and other countries. We urge the Vietnamese side to immediately take all necessary and effective measures possible to protect the safety of foreign citizens and enterprises in Vietnam, including those from China, and provide a decent working environment for foreign enterprises doing normal business there."
The Chinese government has sent a working group to Vietnam to deal with the aftermath of the violence.
The protests come amid rising tensions over a territorial3 dispute in the South China Sea.
The unrest began last week after Vienamese ships attempted to disrupt the normal operations of a Chinese oil company in waters around the Xisha Islands.
Xi: There is no gene4 for invasion in our blood
Chinese President Xi Jinping has reiterated5 that China will firmly stick to the path of peaceful development and would like to boost world peace with other countries.
He made the remarks while addressing a conference marking the 60th anniversary of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries.
Xi Jinping stressed that there's no gene for invasion in Chinese people's blood, and Chinese people won't follow the logic6 that "might is right".
He also called for increasing the people-to-people exchanges to contribute more to China's friendship with other countries.
China, Russia to sign gas deal
China and Russia are expected to sign a deal on natural gas during President Vladimir Putin's visit to China next week.
Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Cheng Guoping says companies from both sides are finalizing7 the gas contracts in Moscow.
Russia's top natural gas producer Gazprom plans to supply China with 38 billion cubic meters of gas annually8 starting from 2018.
Putin will attend a summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia next week in Shanghai.
It's his first trip to China since Chinese President Xi Jinping took office.
Vote counting begins for results of general election in India
Vote counting is underway in India following the mammoth9 nine-phase general election.
About 551 million votes from more than 1.8 million electronic voting machines are being tallied10.
The five week-long election ended on Monday in a contest which pit the ruling Congress against the main opposition11 BJP.

Ukraine to start next round of national talks in Donetsk
Ukrainian and Russian diplomats13 have confirmed the next round of national talks on the future of Ukraine will take place in the region of Donetsk, one of the two regions which have announced a spit from Kiev this week.

If not, Russia says it may stop sending gas into Ukraine.

One-day strike in Turkey in protest against the mine disaster
Clashes have broken out as part of a one-day strike in Turkey in protest against the worst mining disaster in the country.
Thousands have taken to the streets in cities across the country, demanding better working conditions.

Brazilian anti-World Cup protests hit Sao Paulo and Rio
Riot police in Brazil have fired tear gas to disperse17 thousands of protesters in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro who marched against the cost of hosting the football World Cup.
Some demonstrators hurled18 stones while other burned tyres and blocked roads.
They say they are angry that billions of dollars are being spent on next month's football tournament, rather than social projects and housing.
Protests also took place in many other cities, including the capital Brasilia.
