 The prime minister has dragged Tony Abbott into his row with Rupert Murdoch. Kevin Rudd is calling on the Opposition¹ leader to come clean, he says, about any discussions that he had with Mr Murdoch about the future of the National Broadband Network. Mr Rudd is accusing the media Mogul of using his newspapers to attack Labor², because he sees the NBN as a threat to his Fox sale business.

 

The International Cricket Council has dismissed reports that it’s investigating Australian and English batsman for allegedly cheating. Channel 9 has reported the ICC is looking at claims that players were covering the edges of their bats with silicon³ in order to fool the hot spot cameras.  

 

A new recreational drug is being blamed for the death of three high school students and an adult. The chemical called NBOM-e is being sold as LSD, but is far more stronger and more dangerous. Drug educators say it’s one of the most disturbing developments in the drugs seen in the last 20 years.  

 

There’s been more diplomatic fallout from Russia’s decision to grant asylum⁴ to intelligence leaker Edward Snowden. US President Barack Obama has cancelled talks with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Moscow next month. The White House says the asylum decision has deepened tensions between the two countries. 

 

And a house belonging to Ohio kidnapper⁵ Ariel Castro has been demolished⁶. Castro kidnapped three women and held them captive there for a decade. He’s been jailed for life after pleading guilty to dozens of rape⁷, kidnapping and other charges.
