 One of three teenagers accused of shooting dead Australian baseballer Christopher Lane said that they killed him for fun. The teenager has told police they were bored and looking for something to do. Twenty-two-year old Christopher Lane was studying on a scholarship in Oklahoma.

 

The Federal Government's Papua New Guinea solution is facing a legal challenge. Lawyers for an asylum¹ seeker being held at Manus island have filed an application to the federal court. They argue the man's removal from Australia was invalid².

 

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd is campaigning in Brisbane today. He'll announce a 125-million-dollar investment in medical research to be matched by the private sector³. Opposition⁴ leader Tony Abbott is in Victoria and will pledge 25 million dollars to upgrade the Great Ocean Road.

 

 

At least 24 Egyptian policemen have been killed in an ambush⁵ on the Sinai Peninsula. Officials say the police were attacked by Islamists gunmen near the town of Rafah on the Gaza border. 

 

A call for tougher parole laws will be top of the Victorian government's agenda when parliament resumes this week. A review by former high court judge Ian Callinan is expected to recommend sweeping⁶ changes. The review follows a series of high profile murders committed by offenders⁷ on parole.
