 Indonesia’s vice¹ president has accused Australia of paying bribes² over claims people smugglers were paid to turn back a boat to Indonesia. Jusuf Kalla has questioned Australia’s ethics³ and is demanding a full explanation. Back home, the government is trying to deflect⁴ criticism of refusal to confirm or deny the payments have been made.

 

“Labor⁵ and Bill Shorten were asked today to rule out that any such payments were made under the period of Rudd and Gillard governments, what was the answer by Mr. Shorten that they don’t comment on security and intelligence matters.”

 

An 11-year-old boy has died in an overnight house fire in Brisbane’s west. Firefighters dragged the child out of the burning building at Westlake. But he couldn’t be revived and died at the scene. The boy’s 44-year-old mother and two sisters, aged⁶ 13 and 10 managed to escape the blaze and were taken to hospital. 

 

Julia Gillard has admitted she gave Kevin Rudd false hope that he would stay as Prime Minister on the night she deposed⁷ him as Labor leader. The admission is made in the latest episode of ABC documentary, the killing⁸ season.

 

Former Florida Jeb Bush has followed in his father’s and brother’s footstep launching his much-anticipated bid for the White House. The younger brother of former President George W. Bush has promise to fix the United States at his launch rally in Miami.
