Hi, there, good to see you, I'm Virginia Cha at the CNN Center in Atlanta with a look at what's happening NOW IN THE NEWS.
Chrysler and Italian automaker Fiat1 has signed off on a deal brokered2 by Uncle Sam to become what's known as Chrysler Group. Fiat will initially3 take a 20 percent stake. It can't take a majority stake until the new Chrysler pays back the 15. 5 billion dollars it took from the Treasury4 Department. The UAW holds a 55 percent stake, leaving an eight percent stake for the US, two percent for Canada. The Supreme5 Court cleared the way for the deal yesterday, after delaying the sale pending6 review of a case brought by Indiana state pension funds.
From the United Nations news that the Security Council has agreed to tighten7 sanctions on North Korea. Two Western diplomats8 at the UN tell CNN that the members reached an agreement on a resolution. The five permanent members of the Security Council who have veto power are the US, the UK, China, Russia, and France. North Korea has wrangled9 world governments lately, boasting the success of its alleged10 nuclear tests.
Rescuers are fighting rain and snow to try to find a missing New Mexico state police helicopter. The crew had just rescued a hiker. State police say the helicopter called in just after 10 PM to say there was some kind of problem. Police say that was the last time they heard from the two member crew as well as the hiker that were on board.
Another Airbus plane got in trouble over the Atlantic this morning. Spanish officials say the plane had engine trouble after it took off from the Canary Islands, but the plane managed to turn around, land about ten minutes later. Officials say nobody was injured. That plane was an Airbus 320. That is different from the Air France Airbus 330 that crashed last week.
The distinction of world's best airport goes to South Korea. An airline passenger survey ranks Seoul's Incheon Airport as No. 1. The airport has a golf course, a spa, private sleeping rooms and a casino. Some people might never leave. The survey finds Hong Kong International Airport No. 2, Singapore's Airport third. Zurich Airport ranks fourth and Munich Airport fifth. By the way, no US airports made that list.
Those are the headlines for you this hour. Stay with CNN for more on those stories and all your other news of the day.
