 According the government estimates,Americans produced about 250 million tons of garbage in 2010.Now of course,recycling can help cut down on the amount of treasury¹ produced.But that's not enough for one Colorado city,officials there don't want to decrease the amount of trash, they want to do away with it entirely².R shows how businesses are sorting it all out.Steamboats,Colorado,homes of amazing views,so-capped peaks,stunning tree lines and mountains of garbage?Believe it or not,the connection between the snowy height and trash and these overflowing³ lunch trays are closer than you might think.You see, about three years ago,Steamboats Spring set an ambitious goal.They wanted to eliminate all garbage,they recycled or reused everything.The goal to be 100% waste-free by 2014.Here how it works.

 

Restaurants in town events should use only recycled products,that means the cups,plates and eat utensils⁴ have to be compostable or made from recycle goods.Even trash cans are sealed so customer can't throw anything away.They have people who do it for you.

When a tray come to the station,what's your job?What are you doing?

 

 

We take soda⁵ of bottle out,we take any plastic wrappers out and the plastic wrappers go to the garbage and the soda goes in recycling.Anything left food or the bio-plastic that's left,we put in our composer then.

And what's about these stuff,like plastic？This is actually compostable,too as well.

 

 

At the end of the day,all those left-overs come here.The Twin E Composing facility just outside the town,where trash to disintegrate⁸ into dirt.Every year,they turn more than 170 tons of food wrappers and other compostable waster into 400 tons of fertile oil,which goes right back to the mountains of Steamboat Spring's.

 

 

J,when you are looking at all the stuff,some people will see and just say all these goes in trash but.. what's the difference when you look at it?

You know,when I look at it,I see a big garden of dirt right here.And we can bring it in,we can make a you know a wrapped for a winner facilities,we can get a biking trail started with this.

 

 

This is one-day possibly plant food. Exactly.Unreal.That's a playground right there.

 

 

Steamboat already cut its waste by at least 70%,they think that was little guidance any country any city could do just as well.
