Chinese President Xi Jinping says that theories developed by German philosopher Karl Marx still shine with true, and that China has made a correct choice in upholding Marxism in its rebirth and development.
Xi Jinping made the remarks while making a speech at a conference in Beijing, which marked the 200th anniversary of the birth of Marx.
In his speech, Xi Jinping called Marx the "teacher of revolution for the proletariat and working people all over the world, the main founder1 of Marxism, creator of Marxist parties, a pathfinder for international communism and the greatest thinker of modern times."
"Two centuries on, despite huge and profound changes in human society, the name of Karl Marx is still respected all over the world and his theory still shines with the brilliant light of truth."
Xi Jinping said that Marx devoted2 himself to striving for the liberation of humanity, scaling the peak of thought in his pursuit of truth, and the unremitting fight to overturn the old world and establish a new one.
"The most valuable and influential3 spiritual asset that Marx left us is the scientific theory named after him - Marxism. Like a spectacular sunrise, the theory illuminated4 the path of humanity's exploration of the law of history, and humanity's search for their own liberation."
Xi Jinping noted5 that Marxism boils down to the pursuit of human liberation, and that it for the first time stood the ground for the people in exploring paths of liberation, and that it sought to point a way for building an ideal society that is equal and free of oppression and exploitation.
He said that Marxism has deeply changed China, along with the rest of the world.
"Practice has also proved that Marxism provided a powerful ideological6 weapon for China's revolution, establishment and reform, creating unprecedented7 miracles in human history concerning the development of China, an ancient oriental country. It's correct that Marxism was chosen by the history and the people, it's also correct that Marxism was written on the banner of Communist Party of China, and it's also completely correct to unswervingly integrate the basic principles of Marxism with China's specific reality, and adapting Marxism to the Chinese context in accordance with the changing era!"
Xi Jinping, also General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said the CPC is a political party armed with Marxism, which is also the soul of Chinese communists' ideals and beliefs.
He said as China is currently facing an unprecedented situation marked by factors such as heavy tasks of reform, development and stability, the Chinese people must plan for the future and resolve practical problems using Marxism.
He also called on all CPC members to more diligently8 study political theories including Marxism, stressing that a scientific approach should be adopted towards theories with a scientific outlook.
Marx was born in Trier, Germany on May 5, 1818.
As a philosopher, economist9, historian, he left a lasting10 legacy11 on the world.
This year also marks the 170th anniversary of "The Communist Manifesto12" written by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels. It has been serving as a guiding principle for the Communist movement and has profoundly changed the world.
