Chinese President Xi Jinping has sent a message of sympathy to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad over the Syrian first couple's infections with COVID-19.

In his message, Xi Jinping has wished the Syrian President and his wife a speedy recovery.

Xi Jinping says the Chinese government and people firmly support the anti-epidemic efforts of the Syrian government and people.

The fourth session of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, China's top political advisory¹ body, concluded on Wednesday afternoon.

Xi Jinping and other Chinese leaders attended the closing meeting at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

Wang Yang, chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, delivered a speech at the meeting.

A resolution on a Standing² Committee of the CPPCC National Committee work report, which examines proposals, and a political resolution on the annual session were approved at the meeting.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi says the new development pattern put forward by China will provide more development opportunities for companies from Luxembourg and other countries.

He made the remarks in a telephone conversation with Luxembourg's Minister for Foreign and European Affairs Jean Asselborn.

Wang says Luxembourg is an important bridge for China-EU cooperation in building the Belt and Road Initiative.

He has welcomed Luxembourg to take an active part in the internationalization process of the Chinese currency.

Asselborn says his country is ready to play a positive role in advancing the early ratification³ and entry into force of the EU-China investment treaty and the EU-China relationship.

He says Luxembourg stands ready to deepen cooperation with China in aviation, freight transport, communications, finance and people-to-people exchanges.

A survey by the American Chamber⁴ of Commerce shows U.S. businesses in China are positive about doing business this year and expect ties between Beijing and Washington to improve.

The survey, reported by Bloomberg, shows that 80 percent of the respondents see their industries in China growing in 2021.

Half of the respondents said China's investment environment is improving, while only 12 percent believe it is deteriorating⁵, the lowest since 2012.

The study shows that over 60 percent of the U.S. firms are confident the Chinese government will further open up its markets.

The first China International Consumer Products Expo will be held in early May in Haikou, capital of south China's Hainan Province.

More than 400 leading brands from over 50 countries and regions will participate in the event.

Pentagon has decided¹⁰ to keep nearly 2,300 National Guard members at the U.S. Capitol through May 23.

Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby says that during the extension, the Department of Defense¹¹ will work with the U.S. Capitol Police to incrementally¹² reduce the National Guard deployment¹³.

Currently, there are 5,100 National Guardsmen stationed at the Capitol. Their deployment was supposed to end this week.

The National Guard members were deployed¹⁴ in Washington, D.C. shortly after the deadly Capitol riot on Jan. 6.
