He’s an acquaintance.

acquaintance就是熟人、相识的意思。

And an acquaintance is someone³ that you know well but not well enough to call them a friend.

当你想表达和一个人认识，但又没有那么熟以至于可以互称为朋友的时候就可以这样说。

This is why you should never say to a western⁴ person⁵ in the street， "Would⁶ you like to be my friend?" that makes foreigners⁷ very uncomfortable⁸.

如果你在街上见到一个老外就说 "Would you like to be my friend?" 就会使当场的气氛非常尴尬，也会弄的他非常不舒服，所以千万要弄清楚friend和

acquaintance的区别。
