You know, so disappointed at those special effects, and Tobey Maguire’s with us this morning. Good morning.
Good morning.
Great to see you, congratulations.
Good to see you, thank you.
What a really good storyline in this!
Yeah.
Not the least of which is this relationship that's run hot and cold, and hot and cold, and takes all kinds of great turns in this one, too.
Yeah, I'm excited about it, like you said, it's a, there's a lot to it, with Harry1 Osborn and with M.J. and Peter and the villains3 and, you know, lots of big action so.
In terms, in terms of your character though, I, my takeaway was the biggest villain2 you fight in this movie is not the alter-ego4, or Harry or even the Sandman, (Right.) but it’s your own ego?
Yeah, it’s my, my inner struggle. Yeah, Peter Park’s ego gets inflated5 and he also, has real anger and desire for vengeance6, for Sandman, and the black suit enhances or intensifies7 all those feelings.
This is cool, this black cool that somehow (come) mysteriously comes to earth and sort of, messing with you and it brings out, sort of the worst in you.
Yes, exactly.
The… As you were making this third one, you had a chance, to sort of go through this whole big, publicity8 rollout, leave the big…premiere and Queens this weekend everything else. (Yeah, yeah, that's right, yeah.) Have you had a chance to sit in the theater and take a look?
No, I haven’t yet, but I plan to go tonight to, you know, one of the opening shows here tonight, and check it out.
Anonymously9?
Yeah, (Yeah.) of course.
And so, you have no anticipation10 then. What do you want it to be for the audience? You've invested so much in these first two films, your audiences clearly love them, what do you want them to get?
Well, you know, I just want, I just want it to be, be entertaining, or, you know, interesting, or, whatever it is, for that person, but, you know, to me, it is exciting to go, you know, I’ve been to the premieres in all around the world like you said, but there is nothing like to sit in the audience with fans, and feeling their experience.
I’m gonna guess that you are your own worst critic.
Yeah, definitely.
When you see, what do you look for in your own performance that you hope the audience doesn't see.
Well, I see a lot of things, you know. I don’t, you know, I don’t want to point out the flaws that I see, because, I don’t need people looking for that. But no, you know, I just try to do it, I don’t beat up on myself, I just try to learn for the next movie.
Well, here’s the question, because, this, this movie, without giving too much away, wraps up in a pretty, pretty comfortable way. People will ask me if there will be a fourth?
Well, I think that, there, there’ll definitely be more Spiderman movies. In terms of my involvement, it'll be like any other movie. I would decide when I read the script then. And you know, there is a great story, and something really interesting for the character to do and, Sam Raimi was the director, and right cast was in place, and all the circumstances lined up, then I, then I would definitely consider it.
Let me ask you this about, because so much of these is computer-generated. (Right.) It’s not like the old-fashion movie, you are sitting on a set and you are, you know, actually looking at the other character or something, does it take a, is that a different kind of acting11 when so much of these is on the big green screen, and lots of electros attached to you, or anything else?
Well, we do a little bit of the traditional kind of acting, of course, when you are just talking to someone else, and there are the stuns12 like that. And you know, it’s fun, I, I’ve come to really enjoy it.
"Listen to me! I didn't kill your father!!"
Yeah, wow.
Well, I’ll tell you, the anticipation for this is amazing. I’ve two teenager boys at home. And this is, this is a, a major event to do this summer,(right), this is a really really big kind of stuff.
Yeah, it’s exciting, I’m excited about it.
And the other big change in your life is you are dad now?
Yea, I am.
What's that like?
Oh, it's fantastic, yeah, my little girl Ruby13, who’s five and a half months old and, she’s come around the world with me and my fiancée Janda, promotes Spiderman, so it's, it’s just been a bless.
Yeah, you know, we're very happy for you. And we congratulate you on all your success.
Thank you, thank you so much.
Great to see you. Thank you so much.
Great, great to see you.
All right, excellent.
You bet, Tobey Maguire.
