 　　This bread was excellent, I must admit, and I ate it with great pleasure. 应当承认，这面包很好吃，我很喜欢吃。

　　Unfortunately, I said, this pasta won't stay fresh, so it seems pointless to make a supply for on board. 可惜这样一种好面团不能长久保持新鲜，我说想用不着拿回船上去作贮藏的食品了。

　　By thunder, sir! Ned Land exclaimed. There you go, talking like a naturalist¹, but meantime I'll be acting² like a baker³!  真的吗，先生！尼德·兰喊，您是拿生物学家的身份来说这话；但我要拿制面包人的身份来作事。

　　Conseil, harvest some of this fruit to take with us when we go back. 康塞尔，您去摘取这些果子，我们回去的时候可以带走。

　　And how will you prepare it? I asked the Canadian. 您怎样把这些果子制作起来呢？我问加拿大人。

　　I'll make a fermented⁴ batter⁵ from its pulp⁶ that'll keep indefinitely without spoiling.  拿这果子的淀粉泥制成发面团，那就可以长久保存，不至于腐败。

　　When I want some, I'll just cook it in the galley⁷ on board-it'll have a slightly tart⁸ flavor, but you'll find it excellent. 当我要食用的时候，到船上厨房里一烤使得，虽然有些酸味，但您一定觉得它很好吃。

　　So, Mr. Ned, I see that this bread is all we need. 尼德·兰师傅，那么，有了这面包，看来我们是不短什么了吧？

　　Not quite, professor, the Canadian replied. We need some fruit to go with it, or at least some vegetables. 还短些东西，教授，加拿大人回答，还短些水果，至少还短些蔬菜！

　　When our breadfruit harvesting was done, we took to the trail to complete this dry-land dinner. 当我们摘完了面包果，我们就去寻找，要把我们的地上午餐丰富完备起来。
