The wind was blowing a pretty strong gust³ from the south.  当时起了相当厉害的南风。

It was nearly impossible to stand up on the platform, which was continuously buffeted⁵ by this enormously heavy sea.  在平台上简直不可能呆下去，因为时刻都有大浪打来。
