Northern Ireland police released Sinn Féin leader Gerry Adams without charge after nearly 5 days of interrogation over IRA execution 42 years ago. Larry Miller1 reports Adams accuses some in the force of longing2 for the days of sectarian hatred3.
Speaking shortly after being released, Adams says police presented hearsay4 and published books and articles as evidence officially alleged5 them involvement with 1972 murder of mother of 10, Jean McConville.
Adams says the days of sectarian hatred is over, but there are some who still want to return to those violent times. Adams is just yet off the hook. Police sent their files to a prosecutors8 and up to them to decide whether to charge them. For NPR News, I'm Larry Miller in London.
In Ukrainian port city of Odessa, pro-Russian activists9 stormed the jail, promptly10 releasing 67 fellow activists. They were held after a death of pro-Russian demonstrator killed in clashes in Friday. NPR's Soraya Sarhaddi Nelson reports police ordered the release in a effort to defuse the situation.
The protest was observing a day and a morning for those killed on Friday. Many visited the burn-down trade union building that now has a large Russian flag drifted on one wall. But hundreds of others attacked the police station, saying they want to free fellow pro-Russian activists who jailed there. As the violence escalated11, police decided12 to release the prisoners. That prompted an anger of response from Prime Minister, Arseniy Yatsenyuk, who said some of those released were likely involved and helping13 start the fire. He calls the Odessa death a tragedy for Ukraine and has launched an investigation14 into the police who failed to prevent the bloodshed. Soraya Sarhaddi Nelson, NPR News, Kiev.
9 circus performers were seriously injured in an accident in Rhode Island today. The women were performing in aerial act at the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus where hang by the hair like human Chandelier. During a live performance, a woman started to the acting15 then fell off about 40 feet on the ground. Stephen Payne is a spokesman for Ringling Brothers.
"During a performance, a hair hanging apparatus17 which is a part of the show where voyaged 8 of our aerial acrobats18 suspending from their hair, hit fall on the show floor."
Rose Vieira was in the audience. She says everyone was shocked.
"Pretty overwhelming to see that. I mean, I'm still, I so can't believe it happened."
Oil gas prices are on the rise. The Lambert Service says average prices of a gallon of gas rose 0.3% of the past 2 weeks. Triob Lambert, a publisher of the survey, says gas prices are at increase for 12 weeks in a row, and they gained nearly 46 cents on average since February 7th. And he says that a 13% hike.

Despite continuing pressure on Los Angeles Clippers' owner Donald Sterling20 to sell the team, the mayor of Los Angeles says this appeal may be falling on deaf ears. Daniel Charles reports.
Speaking on CBS's Face the Nation, LA mayor Eric Garcetti said he spoke16 to Sterling a few days ago, and he got an impression Sterling is not going to give up the team without a fight.
"He thinks that he's going to be the owner for a long time, that he wants to stay the owner. And I said, 'This will be a long, protracted21 fight and a painful thing for our city that is a great city'."
mayor Garcetti said he urged Sterling to apologize for his racist22 comments that made public more than a week ago. The NBA has imposed the life-time ban on Sterling and fined him 2.5 million dollars. The NBA board of governor says he's expected to meet with him in the next 2 weeks to vote on forcing Sterling to sell the Clippers. For NPR News, I'm Daniel Charles in Los Angeles.
The Republican plan for a special committee to investigate the action of Obama administration over the September 22 attack on the US consulate23 in Benghazi, Libya is joining missed responses from some Democrats24 and Republicans today. Democratic congressman25 Adam Schiff told Fox News Sunday it's a waste of time.
"I don't think it makes sense for us to give this select committee any more credibility than it deserves. Frankly26, I don't think it deserves very much."
But Republican Senator Kelly Ayotte told the same program
"There has been important work done in the committee that has been disjointed it . And the latest revolution from the White House really told us that we need this selected committee."
4 Americans, including the ambassador died in that attack.
Officials say a vantage biplane has crashed while performing at the northern California air show and the pilot was killed.
