The attorney for the family of 25-year-old Freddy Gray is speaking out about the 6.5 million dollars settlement unanimously approved by Baltimore officials today. Gray's death became a flesh point in a growing nationwide debate over police's treatment of black suspects. KB with member station WYPR reports the settlement means there'll be no lawsuit1 against the city. Gray family attorney Billy Murphy says the settlement represents the whole justice, praising Baltimore mayor Stephanie Rawlings Blake for taking decisive action. 'If this civil case and file ends in federal court which is our plan, it could easily have taken three years to resolve and no grieving family wants to go through that.' Negotiations2 over a settlement began shortly after six officers were criminally charged in Gray's death from a spinal3 injury he suffered while in police custody4 in April. Obama said the money would create apprenticeships in high-growth and high-tech10 industries, including healthcare, IT and advanced manufacturing. 'When our business is creating good jobs, and our community colleges and training programs are helping11 workers get the skills they need to fill those jobs, you cannot stop this. There is nothing we cannot accomplish.
