Later2 he woke3 up. Harold was4 asleep5. Carl looked at his watch. It was midnight6. He called the airhostess, “Excuse me, what time do we arrive?”
“Eleven thirty P.M. local7 time, Sir. That’s about half an hour from now.”
“Thank you.” Carl changed the time on his watch.
“Anything else, Sir?”
“No, I don’t think so. Oh! Wait a minute! Could8 I have a cup of coffee, please?”
He watched her bring the coffee. “She looks like my daughter, too.” He thought10, “And she is very young. She looks nervous11, not sure what to do.”
“How long have you been at here, airhostess?” He asked.
She smiled. “Three months, Sir.” She said12.
“Do you like it?”
“Yes, I love it. It’s very exciting.” She smiled nervously13, “Well, that’ll be, Sir.”
“Yes, thank you.”
He drank the coffee and started to read his newspaper. When Harold woke up, Carl showed him a page of paper. “Look, here you are.” He said. He pointed16 to a picture. In the middle of the picture stood17 Carl himself-----a short thin man with grey18 hair wearing a suit19. Behind him on the left was Harold-----a tall strong young man like a sportsman20. Both men were smiling. “That’s you and me outside the embassy,” said Carl. “We are in the news15 again. You can show it to you sons. You are a famous21 man, Harold.”
Harold laughed. “You are the famous man, Sir. Not me.” He said, “I am just a police22 officer23, Sir. It’s my job to take care24 of you. That’s a photo of you, not me.”
“Perhaps, but your children think that you are a famous man, I’m sure. Here, take it and show it to them.”
“OK, thanks.” Harold smiled and put the newspaper in his coat pocket25. “I think I’ll have a cup of coffee, too.” He called for the airhostess, but she did26 not come. Harold looked surprised27.
“What’s the matter?” Carl asked.
“The airhostess.” Harold said, “She is sitting down talking to those two men.”
Carl looked upon28 and saw29 the young airhostess. She was sitting in the seat30 in the front of the plane with two young men. They looked worried32 and nervous. Suddenly33 one of the young men picked34 up a bag and walked into the pilot35’s cabin36. The other man and the airhostess followed him.
“That’s strange37!” said Carl.
“What are they doing?”
“I don’t know.”
“It’s very strange.” said Harold. “I don’t like it at all.” He began to get out of his seat, but then stopped and sat38 down again. For one or two minutes, nothing happened. None39 of the other passengers40 moved or spoke41. They had42 seen43 the young men, too. It became44 very quiet in the plane. A bell rang, and for a moment they could hear two voices46 arguing47. Then the pilot spoke, “Ladies and gentlemen48, this is the captain49 speaking. Please do not be afraid. There is a change of plan31. We have to land50 on the another airport before we finish our journey51. There is no danger52. We will land in fifteen minutes. Please stay in your seats53 and keep calm54. Thank you.” Then the airhostess came45 out of the cabin. She looked very different now because she had a machine55 gun56 in her hand. She stood in the front of the plane and watched the passengers carefully57.
