Welcome to the Beijing Hour, live from the Chinese capital.
Coming up on our program this morning...
Several Chinese companies announcing that they will postpone1 follow-up issues of shares due to the recent stock market volatility2.
In our weekly sci-tech feature, the world's first open service 3D printing platform launching in Qingdao.
In Sports, the latest tennis action from Wembledon.
In Entertainment, mandopop superstar Jane Zhang going public with her 12-year relationship.
Top News28 firms postpone IPOsTwenty-eight Chinese companies already approved for initial public offerings have announced that they will postpone follow-up issues of shares due to recent fluctuations5 in the stock market.
Of the firms, 10 planned to go public in Shanghai and 18 in Shenzhen.
The postponement9 comes at a time when Chinese authorities are struggling with continued plunges10 in the market.
The losing trend has worsened over the past week despite a string of supportive measures from central authorities.
The Shanghai Composite Index fell over 5.7 percent on Friday to finish below 3,700 points, down from a peak of nearly 5,200 points three weeks ago.
Also on Saturday, China's major securities companies vowed14 to join in efforts to head off a possible stock market crash.
CRI's Yu Yang reports.
Reporter:
At a meeting, China's 21 major securities brokers vowed to "firmly" stabilize the country's stock market, which has been shaken by continued plunges.
According to a joint15 statement, the brokers will spend no less than 120 billion yuan, or 15 percent of their total net assets, on exchange traded funds that track the performance of blue chip stocks.
The firms promise not to sell the stocks they held as of July 3 and pledged to buy more, until the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index returns to 45-hundred points.
They will also actively16 repurchase stocks in their own company from the market and encourage major stock holders17 to increase their stakes.
China's top three brokers -- CITIC Securities, Haitong Securities and Guotai Junan Securities -- were among the 21 signatories of the statement.
Meanwhile, the Securities Association of China issued a statement, calling on all brokerages to view the economic situation and capital market in a correct way and take similar actions to bolster18 the ailing19 market.
"On the one hand, if the government doesn't make a move to shore up the market now, it will be too late. But on the other hand, the market is likely to react very slowly to the favorable policies that have been put out, so I feel a portfolio21 policy is needed."Guo says the markets need a "strong boost" to stabilize the situation and restore investor7 confidence.
"As you know a single policy won't start leveling its effects in one or two days of trading. But if the government continues easing policies, the downward pressure will finally ease, allowing the stock market to rise once again."Saturday's meeting is among the latest attempts to break the losing streak22 in the mainland market that has seen the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index dive by more than 28 percent over the past three weeks from a 7-year high at around 52-hundred.
Earlier, China's central bank has lowered both the interest rate and reserve requirement ratio for banks to inject liquidity23 into the market.
The Shanghai and Shenzhen stock exchanges have announced a roughly 30-percent cut in stock transaction fees, while the China Securities Depository and Clearing Company announced a reduction in stock transfer fees by about 33 percent from Aug. 1.
The China Securities Regulatory Commission has also vowed to investigate suspected manipulation of the stock market.
But none of the supportive policies have so far worked as expected.
The Shanghai Composite Index slumped24 over 5.7 percent on Friday to finish below the psychological threshold of 3,700 points.

Chinese securities regulator warns news agencies that publish fake storiesThe China Securities Regulatory Commission has demanded more accurate media reporting connected to the downturn of the A-share market.
The call follows a series of online reports which have suggested a number of traders have killed themselves and their families.
The CRSC's Zhang Xiaojun says police have determined25 that these reports are false.
"I want to remind the mass media and news staffers to adhere to the accuracy of news and abide26 by your professional ethics27. Stop publishing and spreading groundless rumors28 and information. We would prefer you work to tell people about the right information when it comes to the markets, so that the markets themselves will continue in a healthy path."Meanwhile, the China Securities Finance Corporation, the exclusive government-run lender for margin29 trading in China, is being bolstered30 with more capital, going from 24-billion yuan to 100-billion.
People's Bank of China governor Zhou Xiaochuan has also issued a statement in an attempt to reassure31 the markets, saying the PBOC plans to "hold fast" so as not to allow any systemic risks to China's overall economy.
6 dead in east China factory collapseSix people have died in the hospital after being rescued from the rubble32 of a factory building that collapsed33 on Saturday afternoon in east China's Zhejiang Province.
Fifty-one people were working in the factory building of a shoemaker in Wenling City when it collapsed at around 4 p.m.
Rescuers saved 40 in the ruins and sent them to the hospital.
The rescue work is still underway.

Tusi Sites Listed as World HeritageAnchor:
Historical structures from the ethnically39 diverse Tusi Sites in southwest China have been placed on UNESCO's list of World Heritage Sites.
As CRI's Liu Yuanhui reports, China now has the world's second most cultural heritage sites.
Reporter:
China gained its 48th World Heritage Site on Saturday during the 39th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee in Bonn, Germany.
The three Tusi sites include the ruins of Hailongtun castle in Guizhou; the Tangya Tusi city in Hubei; and the Yongshun old Tusi city in Hunan.
With the inscription41 of the three, China now has 48 world heritage sites, trailing only Italy.
Historical architecture researcher Chen Tongbin says the Tusi sites are different from common historical structures.
"One thing is worth our attention this time. What makes the Tusi Sites distinguished42 is not their architecture, but their roles in helping43 us learn about how an ancient governance system kept harmony between the central authorities at the time and local ethnic38 minority groups."Tusi refers to tribal44 chieftains who governed non-Han ethnic groups in southwest China between the 13th to the mid-20th century.
The chieftains were appointed as imperial officials by the central government at the time.
They used to rule their tribes on the basis of the empire's law and proprieties46 as well as local customs.
Under the Native Chieftain System, the tribal leaders were allowed to inherit their official positions.
It's widely recognized that the Tusi system was a model for preserving cultural diversity in a unified47 multi-ethnic country.
China officially submitted application to the World Heritage Center for Chinese chieftain heritage in March last year.
Xu Guanghua is an official from Zunyi City, the site of the Hailongtun castle.
"The listing of Hailongtun Site is of great importance to the development of the city. Our three years of efforts finally pay off. We will take advantage of this opportunity to boost our tourism development and improve cultural heritage protection."To protect Hailongtun, the Zunyi government has allocated49 about 300 million yuan, or about 50 million U.S. dollars, to relocate residents and renovate50 the site.
So far, UNESCO has acknowledged 1,007 World Heritage properties across the globe, 779 cultural sites, 197 natural sites and 31 mixed sites.

Despite progress in Iran nuclear talks, dispute over U.N. sanctions remainAnchor:
Iran is considering shipping51 much of its low enriched uranium stockpiles that could be used to make nuclear weapons to Russia in a major breakthrough in the nuclear talks between Iran and 6 world powers.
But as CRI's Poornima Weerasekara reports, other major sticking points remain as negotiators race towards a July 7th deadline.
Reporter:
After marathon nuclear talks on Saturday in Vienna, Iran is finally relenting to ship over 7,500 kilograms of its low enriched uranium to Russia by the end of June.
The U.N. nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency says this is a major breakthrough.
It is the first concrete step that Tehran is taking to reduce its domestic Uranium stockpile.
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif says Tehran was willing to be more pragmatic as long as its international partners were not being coercive.
"At this eleventh hour, despite some differences that remain, we have never been closer to a lasting52 outcome but there is no guarantee. Getting to yes requires the courage to compromise, the self-confidence to be flexible, the maturity53 to be reasonable, the wisdom to set aside illusions and the audacity54 to break old habits. I see hope because I see emergence55 of reason over illusion. I sense that my negotiating partners have recognised that coercion56 and pressure never lead to lasting solutions but to more conflict and further hostility57."Negotiators from Iran and six world powers - including the United States, Britain, China, France, Germany and Russia – have already missed a June 30 deadline for a final agreement.
They have given themselves until next Tuesday, July 7 to come up with a comprehensive deal to lift international sanctions in exchange for Tehran scaling back its nuclear program.
Meanwhile, the head of the U.N. nuclear watchdog Yukiya Amano says they could issue a report on its investigation58 into past Iranian research suspected of being linked to nuclear weapons development by the end of the year. He has also hinted that Tehran was willing to cooperate on this.
"With cooperation from Iran, I think we can issue a report by the end of the year on the assessment59 of the clarification of the issues related to the possible military dimension. Once an agreement is reached on the joint comprehensive plan of action the IAEA is ready to implement60 the nuclear related elements when requested.
Amano was in Tehran on Thursday for meetings with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and other top Iranian officials to discuss the stalled IAEA investigation into Tehran's past nuclear work.
Answering questions about the possible military dimensions (PMD) of past Iranian nuclear research has been one of the major sticking points in the negotiations61.
Others include gaining access to Iranian nuclear sites to monitor compliance62 with a future agreement and coming up with a timetable for lifting economic sanctions.
US Secretary of State John Kerry and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi have remained in Vienna throughout the talks last week. Other foreign ministers are due to return on Sunday for a final push.
All sides say a deal is within reach. But whether there is a final breakthrough will depend on some tough political decisions from all parties involved.
For CRI I'm Poornima Weerasekara.
Tunisia Declares State of EmergencyTunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi has declared a state of emergency to hand his government more authority following an Islamic militant63 attack on a beach hotel.
"After hearing the opinion head of Parliament and the Prime Minister, we decided64 to declare a state of emergency on all the territory of the Republic for a period of 30 days, the state of emergency as defined in the decree of January 26, 1978."Tunisia's emergency law temporarily gives the government more executive flexibility65, hands the army and police more authority, and restricts public assembly.
It followed a gun attack on the Bardo museum in Tunis in March, where 21 foreigners were shot dead.
Islamic State militants have claimed responsibility for both attacks.
The country last had a state of emergency during the 2011 uprising against Zine Ben Ali.
El-Sissi on Sinai Peninsula inspecting troopsEgyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi has declared that his country's security situation is "completely stable."This comes on the heels of a coordinated69 assault on militants in the restive70 northern part of the Sinai Peninsula.
When inspecting troops in northern Sinai, el-Sissi says a huge plan plotted by the Islamic State had been thwarted71.
"What you have achieved in the last 48 hours has stopped and thwarted a huge plan. Honestly, the Islamic State militants were astonished and didn't expect the speed that we resolved this battle through the killing72 of a hundred of their forces in a few hours on Wednesday."The army has confirmed that 17 soldiers and over 100 militants were killed during an attack on Wednesday in Sinai.
The attack hit a string of army checkpoints and involved multiple suicide bombings and the siege of a main police station with heavy weapons.
US July 4th Celebration on High Terrorism AlertAnchor:
Americans have started their annual celebration of the July 4th, Independence Day holiday.
This year the national day celebrations take place amid heightened concerns about terrorism.
CRI's He Fei reports from Washington D.C.
Reporter:
"Happy 4th of July everybody."With the good wishes from President Obama, the American people started their celebration early in the morning. As a tradition, families gather along the Constitution Ave. in Washington D.C. to watch and participate in the annual Independence Day Parade.
"I have lived in this area for about ten years. I tried to come to the parade every year."This is Phil Helgerson, who lives in southern Maryland, not far from the capital. And this year, the tradition includes even more excitement. His grandsons are also participating.
"I have two grandsons in high school in Massachusetts. And their band was chosen to represent Massachusetts in the parade so it's exciting to see them come all the way from there. "The big party aims to represent all parts of the United States, all of its 50 states. It consists of invited bands, fife and drum corps76, floats, a variety of specialty77 units and equestrians78.
"Happy birthday America."4-year old Hollace Oaks comes with her parents from Virginia, about four hours drive to DC. The family dresses her up with the elements of the American National Flag, which is a red, white and blue celebration. Her mother Missy Oaks has a day plan for the family.
"We are here to see the parade and afterwards we gonna go over and get a spot in capitol hill so we can watch the fireworks tonight and listen to the concert and just enjoy the day in Washington D.C. "When people are having fun with the Parade, security staff are on highly alert. Both home and abroad, US leaders have been taking steps to increase security, following a warning from security officials that the July 4th celebration could be targets of a terror threat. An air show at a US Air Force base in Britain has just been canceled yesterday. And states like New York have all increased security efforts, putting officials on high alert.
In D.C., there are more police officers guarding the parade this year with only a few steps between the two stand guards. Plus, more patrol officers can be seen riding motorcycles back and forth79. The good news is the majority of people are less worried than the authorities.
"I'm not that concerned about that. I think the security here is outstanding.""We still think we should celebrate America and come out and just enjoy the day. So we're just thinking in a very positive way that we should enjoy and celebrate America."The one day celebration will be continued later today with an all-star concert in front of the Capital Hill and be concluded with the traditional firework performance at the Washington Monument.

Japan,Thailand and Myanmar Sign Memorandum81 of Intent for Dawei ProjectJapan, Thailand and Myanmar have signed a memorandum of intent for the joint development of the long-delayed Dawei project in southeastern Myanmar.
The document was signed on the sidelines of the Japan-Mekong Summit in Tokyo.
Thai Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-Ocha said the project will become a new distribution hub for the world.
"The cooperation between the three countries on Dawei will be the world's new economic gate linking the Pacific and the Indian Ocean. This will be major opportunity for Japan's private sectors82 with Thailand's support as manufacturing base, as a connecting point and as a product distribution centre to the region. With this, we reaffirm that Thailand will do its best to look after Japanese investment's best interests."The project has been stalled for years largely due to the Italian Thai Development (ITD), which had failed to secure private investment and agree on a power source for the complex.
It will begin with construction of a 138-kilometer road from Dawei to Kanchanaburi province, 119 kilometers northwest of Bangkok.
If successful, the project will allow cargo83 to bypass the narrow and congested Strait of Malacca to forge shorter trade routes from the Middle East and Africa to China and Japan.
A recent deal between the American technology solutions provider Immersion Corporation and Chinese tech giant Letv has produced the phones first ever 4d trailers.
CRI's Samuel Duckett reports.
Report:
Chinese video streaming company LeTV has partnered with NASDAQ-listed haptic technology solution provider Immersion Corporation to bring 4D videos to smartphones.
Haptic, originally a Greek term is based on the concept of using various types of vibrations86 to give the user a more interactive87 feeling.
John Pattern is the General Manager of Immersion Corporation.
"We did do a deal with Letv, where we allow haptics to be matched up to the entertainment you are watching. In that Letv deal they have a 4d app and if you go into the 4d category and you can watch the newest James Bond trailer. And as part of that every experience, if a bomb goes off your whole phone shakes, if a gun shoots you can feel it. Feel and touch as a part of that experience and we are seeing that drive engagement and positive user experience."The partnership88 with Letv is the only latest collaboration89 Immersion Corporation has made with Chinese firms. The American based company previously90 released a haptic technology special version of the popular mobile game fruit ninja in China, and they have already launched several deals, branching out to a wide range of Chinese companies.
John Pattern Talked about Immersion Corporation's relationship with China.
"I expect China to be one of the leaders in this; we've certainly seen how smartphone usage has become part of everyday life in China. So I think the acceptance level of new technology and what we are doing with the sense of touch, I expect China to be an industry leader in this. We have seen fruit ninja take off and really do quite well with haptics. "John Pattern talked about some of their other objectives of Immersion Corporation.
"We really believe haptics has great reach into every digital device interaction. It can create ways for the device to interact with you through a distinctive91 notification, through something that's maybe private it creates a deeper emotional connection, through technology between two people you can give the user the sense that what the user is doing in the digital world is more real. There are all sorts of ways that haptics can, you name the application, boost what they are looking to do wit the mobile phone or tablet."The partnership Immersion has made with Letv is still young and they have already produced some impressive trailers. Haptics technology will not effect the operating speed of a smartphone or tablet device and will only be marginally more taxing on battery life. So it seems like we may be in store for more futuristic, personal productions via haptics in the future.

The group walked away with 1.8 million yuan from the mine owners.
They murdered the four miners at iron mines in Hebei back in 2011 and 2012.
After the murders, the gang created the illusion of an accident, then duped the mine owners into giving them compensation as the "relatives" of the victims.
The gang was finally caught after their fourth attempt to cheat "compensation" out of mine owners.

The world's first open service 3D printing platform launched on Monday in East China's Qingdao.
Animals such as chickens, pigs and fish are being used to help make general earthquake predictions in Nanjing.
And a plane powered by the sun's rays landed in Hawaii on Friday after a record-breaking five-day journey across the Pacific Ocean from Japan.
Let catch up on all of that and more, with CRI's Wen Jie.
Reporter:
The world's first open service 3D printing platform was put into use on Monday in Qingdao City of east China's Shandong Province.
The innovation center has purchased more than ten 3D printers and bioprinters, or spatially-controlled cell pattern printers, from places including China, the United States and Germany.
The center marks the establishment of a complete 3D printing ecological97 chain, or comprehensive service system, that will enable clients to enjoy low or even zero cost of some 3D printing services.
Luo Jun is chief executive of World 3D Printing Technology Industry Alliance.
"So far, the international market of 3D printing has not been fully98 opened. We think, in the near future, whichever country can first open its 3D printing application market, is possibly going to take a lead in the development of global 3D printing industry."Through 3D printing technology, particularly bio-printing, internal organs and other body parts can be printed and utilized99.
French cosmetics100 giant L'Oreal has already partnered with Organovo, a biotech company, to study and develop 3D printed tissues to be used for human skin.
////Nanjing city in East China's Jiangsu province has built seven new observation sites using animals like chickens, pigs and fish to help make general earthquake predictions.
At Banqiao ecological park, the behavior of around 200 pigs, 2-thousand chickens, and fish in a 15-hectare pond is also closely monitored to detect signals of an earthquake.
Breeders create daily reports regarding animal behavior for Nanjing's seismological departments using popular instant messaging software QQ.
Nanjing has increased its strength in earthquake prediction with new funding allocated since last year.
According to local authorities, such sites need to comply with certain requirements in order to be effective, such as being located in a relatively101 quiet environment to allow for better observation.
////China's latest high-speed train which operates at an average speed of 350 km per hour rolled off the production line on Tuesday.
The train, to which China owns the independent intellectual property rights, runs with five percent less air resistance than previous high-speed models.
The train is designed to run on smoother lines and is capable of reaching 400 km per hour, according to engineers.
He Huawu, chief engineer at China Railway Corporation, says what makes this new train different from its predecessors102 are two key devices.
"When the distance between this train and the train ahead of it or behind it is shorter than the safe distance required, the system will give warnings to the driver. Besides, the train is fitted with an earthquake early warning alert and a disaster reduction system."Passengers can enjoy access to a wireless103 internet service and the carriage's spacious104 interior allows more room between rows of seats.
The train is expected to be put into operation once it has successfully completed 600-thousand kilometers of test running.

///A plane powered by the sun's rays landed in Hawaii on Friday after a record-breaking five-day journey across the Pacific Ocean from Japan.
Pilot Andre Borschberg and his single-seat aircraft landed at Kalaeloa, a small airport outside Honolulu.
The pilot says this flight proves that solar technology can be an option for future travel.
"The demonstration106 that of technology works. That you can fly almost forever with the sun."His 120-hour voyage from Nagoya broke the record for the world's longest nonstop solo flight, his team said.
The late US adventurer Steve Fossett set the previous record of 76 hours when he flew a specially-designed jet around the globe in 2006.
But Borschberg flew the Solar Impulse 2 without fuel.
Instead, its wings were equipped with 17,000 solar cells that charged batteries.
The plane ran on stored energy at night.
Bertrand Piccard was Borschberg's co-pilot who had been taking turns flying the plane on an around-the-world trip since taking off from Abu Dhabi in March.
"Very often renewable energies are presented as a break, as an obstacle for development. And we want to show the opposite. We want to show that renewable energies, and clean technology can achieve the impossible. That it's a fantastic solution to grow, to create jobs, to make profit, but also to protect the environment."The plane's ideal flight speed is about 45 kilometres per hour though that can double during the day when sun's rays are strongest.
The carbon-fibre aircraft weighs as much as a minivan or mid-sized truck.
The plane was created in order to encourage governments to replace vehicles that pollute with clean technology.
///Japanese robot developer Cyberdyne announced on Thursday it will provide robotic suits at Tokyo's Haneda Airport to help reduce the load on the waists of baggage handlers and passengers.
The robot company and the airport operator company said they had signed an agreement to introduce robots in the airport's passenger terminals.
The robotic suit HAL, which stands for 'Hybrid108 Assistive Limb', is equipped with a computer, motors, and sensors109 that detect electric nerve signals transmitted from the brain when a person tries to move his or her waist.
Developer and CEO of Cyberdyne Yoshiyuki Sankai, explains that when signals are detected, the computer starts up the relevant motors to assist the person's motions.
"This robot suit detects the signal from the human nerve system to support the waist's movement. It self-adjusts the level of support it provides to reduce the load on the human waist, making the load quite light and compact."The 'Lumbar Type' HAL weighs three kilograms and operates for up to three hours on a single charge. Cyberdyne also plans to provide automated110 cleaning robots able to ride elevators on their own to clean multiple floors and transport unmanned robots that can carry up to 200 kilograms of luggage.
Faced with an ageing society and declining labour population in Japan, Sankai said he believes the airport is an ideal place to test the possibility of robots in future society.
"An airport is in fact a small community. To introduce our robots to the airport and make them evolve with the community inside is closely connected to our dream of making a better society. We believe we can start making a better future from the airport."Cyberdyne will rent three robot suits, five cleaning robots and three transport robots to Haneda airport during a six-month test period.
And that actually brings us to the end of this edition of our weekly science and technology report.
Thank you for listening and hope you enjoy the show.
