Wang-Koo meeting witness welcomes historic Xi-Ma meetingAnchor:
One of the key figures who was present at the 1993 "Wang-Koo meeting" has spoken highly of Saturday's historic meeting between Xi Jinping and Ma Ying-jeou.
CRI's Xie Cheng has moreReporter:
The "Wang-Koo meeting" refers to a meeting held in Singapore in April 1993 between Wang Daohan, head of the mainland's Association for Relations across the Taiwan Straits, and Koo Chen-fu, chairman of the Taiwan-based Straits Exchange Foundation. The meeting paved the way for the improvement of cross-Strait ties.
Ch'iu Chin'i, former vice6 chairman of the Taiwan Straits Exchange Foundation, says he has been waiting for this moment for 22 years.
"I am really moved and excited, because it is the first time for the leaders from both sides of the Taiwan Strait to have such a meeting after 22 years. The hand-shaking is a historic moment. This is an epoch-making milestone7 for cross-Strait relations."Ch'iu says he hopes the meeting will be a good momentum8 that will let Taiwan participate in the dream of the Chinese nation, and then be involved in the programs like the 'Belt and Road' initiative and the Asian Infrastructure9 Investment Bank.
Meanwhile, Taiwan businesspeople in the Chinese mainland have expressed their confidence for the future development of cross-Strait relations after the historic meeting.
At present, over 50,000 companies in the Chinese mainland are owned by Taiwan business people.
Chou Feng-chen, is with an association representing Taiwan businesspeople based in south China's Guangdong province.
She says they all expect cross-Strait exchanges to be better facilitated.
"Of course we expect the cross-Strait exchanges to become smoother, simpler and easier. For example, we will transfer investment to the service sector10. In addition to restaurants, we will invest in education or the finance sector in the Chinese mainland. It will be easier for us to do this. So I think these are our expectations."Hsu Hsueh-jung, a Taiwan businessman in Jiangsu Province, says he believes people in Taiwan will be relieved by this historic meeting, which will benefit the environment for businesses.
"I believe this historic meeting will make us Taiwan people more relieved. So we can do more sincere and friendly businesses and push forward further communications. This is the most important."Latest stats from the Ministry of Commerce show trade between the mainland and Taiwan reached some 138 billion U.S. dollars in the first nine months of this year.
Mainland imports from Taiwan more than tripled that of exports to the island during the period.
Taiwan is the mainland's seventh largest trade partner and the sixth largest source of imports.

Smog Engulfs13 Northeast Chinese ProvinceHeavy smog engulfed14 a dozen of cities in northeast China's Liaoning Province on Sunday.
Seven highways across the province were shut down due to low visibility. 15 other highways had reduced speed limits or temporary closures because of visibility issues.
Many pedestrians15 wore masks to protect themselves from the bad air.
"I'm guessing the visibility cannot be farther than 50 meters,""You can even smell the unpleasant smell in the air,"Experts believe the increased use of coal as heating systems are powered up for the winter is directly responsible for the increase in smog.
The provincial16 meteorological bureau has issued an orange alert, a middle-level alert, on heavy smog in most cities and emergency measures have been activated17.

Kissinger in China Elaborates on World OrderAnchor:
Well-known American politician Henry Kissenger, who made tremendous efforts to open communications with China, has traveled to Beijing to promote the Chinese edition of his new book, World Order.
CRI's Xu Fei reports.
Reporter:
Henry Kissinger is a well-known name in China. He is widely thought as an old, sincere friend of the Chinese people.
Dating back to 1971, Henry Kissinger, who was Nixon's National Security Advisor20, flew to Beijing, where his meetings with then Chinese leaders produced an agreement that President Nixon would visit China. That's the first-ever visit by a US president in history.
As an experienced senior diplomat21, Kissinger has many precious moments to recall, but he set his vision further away in the future in his book, World Order, as he himself explains:
"Somebody said to me, you really should write a book about the biggest problem in the world today. Don't write about history; write about the future. And so I wrote it. In all human history, there has never been a world order. In this sense, the whole world participated in creating an international system."Henry Kissinger wrote the book World Order in September 2014.
Within a year, the Chinese edition of World Order was published by CITIC Press Group.
According to the publisher, 200,000 books have been sold within the very first three months since it became available in China.
Fu Ying is the chairperson of Foreign Affairs Committee, National People's Congress.
"Kissinger's book in good sale in China reflects Chinese people's admiration22 for his rich knowledge and also experiences as a famous diplomat. His book would guide readers to travel along the route of history. The book vividly24 shows us those historical scenes which include confrontation25, conflicts and the real stories on initiating26 world peace, breaking it and re-seeking peace and stability."Under Kissinger's observation, there has never been a true "world order". Each country considers itself the center of the world and envisions its distinct principles as universally relevant.
China and the US, as the two important players in international politics, should first properly tackle their bilateral27 ties.
Kissinger offers compelling insights into the future of U.S.–China relations in this book.
"When the American and Chinese leaders meet, they have to learn not only their own interest, but the interests of the world. And they are making a serious effort; that statements of American president and Chinese presidents have been very positive about long-range objectives and they found ways of dealing28 with short range objectives. But now we have to work on middle range objectives since five years ahead. We haven't fully29 resolved that yet."In addition to U.S.–China relations, World Order also examines lessons from the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan and analyzes30 nuclear negotiations31 with Iran and tensions with Russia over Ukraine.

14th Dubai Airshow Takes offThe 14th Dubai Airshow opened on Sunday in Dubai, capital of the United Arab Emirates, attracting 1,100 exhibitors from more than 60 countries and regions.
More than 160 military and civil airplanes will be on display throughout the five-day event.
A 3D pavilion showcasing how 3D printing will be increasingly used by aircraft manufacturers is expected to be a highlight of the show.
Alan Peaford, editor-in-chief of Arabian Aerospace32 magazine, says the airshow plays an increasingly important role for the Middle East region to show off its fast-growing aviation industry, with Dubai's prime global location paramount33 to its popularity.
"I think it's the geographic34 advantage exactly the same as the airlines have. It sits here in the middle of the world. It is the bridge between Asia and Africa, between Europe and Australasia. And so it's there [that] the market in Dubai has grown."The biennial35 Dubai Airshow, first held in 1989, is considered to be the fastest growing air show in the world.
This year's event runs through Nov 12 and is expected to draw around 65,000 visitors from around the world.
China-developed stealth fighter FC-31 makes debut36 at Dubai AirshowAnchor:
A new Chinese-made stealth fighter, the FC-31, has made its international debut at the 14th Dubai Airshow.
Our Reporter XYee has more.
Reporter:
Lin Peng, FC-31's chief designer, says the fighter can be customized according to users' demands.
"The users can designate domestic or International suppliers to provide communications equipment, sensors37 and guided weapons. The FC-31 is expected to make its first flight in 2019. It will reach its initial operating capability38 in 2022. And by 2024, the FC-31 will have full operational capability."The twin-engine, radar-evading stealth fighter was developed by the Aviation Industry Corporation of China, or AVIC.
Deputy general manager Li Yuhai says the FC-31 is equal to other types of fighters of the same class in terms of its platform and systems performance, and is also cost effective.
"No matter if it's in terms of the cost of a single fighter or in terms of the cost throughout a fighter's whole life cycle, the FC-31 is better than any other fighter of the same class."Named Shenyang J-31 in Chinese, the fighter made its maiden39 flight in late 2012 and was displayed to the public for the first time in late 2014 during China's International Aviation & Aerospace Exhibition.
The fighter's debut at Dubai Airshow marks the first time that China has introduced a domestically-built fighter jet on the international stage. In the past, China's roles have mainly involved production or supportive services.
The biennial Dubai Airshow, the biggest in the Middle East and Africa, was first held in 1989 and is considered to be one of the fastest growing air shows in the world. At the 2013 show, deals reached more than 20.6 billion U.S. dollars in total.
This year's event runs through Nov 12 and is expected to draw around 65,000 visitors from around the world.

Chinese Renminbi internationalization acceleratesChina has accelerated the internationalization of its currency, the Renminbi, as the country's banking40 organizations are entering new cooperation with Singapore, one of Asia's finance hubs.
Bank of China, or BOC, has launched two global commodity business centers based in Singapore on Saturday.
It has also signed a cooperation agreement on RMB financing with International Enterprise Singapore in the last week.
Guo Ningning, president of BOC Singapore Branch, says the deal is designed to provide more RMB financial products to overseas market.
"We provide all kinds of financial products and services, including traditional services like loans, deposits, currency exchange, trade settlement and trade financing, and new financial services like RMB financial products."Also, the Singapore Branch of the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) has signed a memorandum41 of strategic cooperation with IE Singapore to build the "electronic Silk Road."According to the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunications, the RMB has become the world's second most-used currency for trade and financing, the fifth most-used currency for payment and the sixth most-used currency in foreign exchanges.
China has filed an application to the International Monetary42 Fund to add RMB into the organization's currency basket of Special Drawing Rights. The IMF will announce its results on China's application at the end of November.
Marathon fever sweeps across ChinaAnchor:
Marathon fever has swept across China, with about 75,000 participants running in competitions in six cities on Sunday morning.
And as marathons gain momentum in China, they bring with them huge business opportunities.
CRI's Guo Yan reports.
Reporter:
The 2015 Shanghai International Marathon was set to have 35,000 runners.
Over 100,000 people had applied43 and the organizer had to draw lots to decide who would get to participate.
An unnamed participant who was eligible44 to run in the Marathon in Shanghai said that he felt sorry for those who failed to win the lottery45.
"Actually, most good runners were not lucky enough to be selected for the marathon this year. It's like a lottery. Eligible participants had to win a lottery."Zhang Zhenpeng is the person in charge of the Beijing Bird's Nest Half Marathon which also kicked off on Sunday.
He said he didn't expect that for all places to be filled up so soon.
"We opened 8,000 placements and predicted these might be filled in half a month. However, runners were so enthusiastic that all placements were filled at night since the application began at 09:00. Just in one day. During the day, there were two system crashes because of the huge visitor volume."Data released by the Chinese Athletic46 Association shows that Chinese marathon competitions have increased rapidly.
While only 22 marathon competitions were held in 2011, the number increased to over 120 this year.
The association predicted the number will rise above 200 next year.
The popularity of marathons across China also brings about economic benefits.
Zhang Yongliang is the director of the Marathon Office of the Athletics47 Administrative48 Center of China's General Administration of Sport.
He said the marathon fever has also helped to boost revenue for local governments.
"For example, marathon competitions in Xiamen City have brought 230 million yuan in revenue each year. However, it is far behind the Tokyo marathon which earns about two billion yuan each year. But many cities have realized that marathon competitions can promote tourism. For example, the city of Hengshui held the first marathon on September 23, 2012, boosting the city's tourist revenue by 300 percent."Business insiders believe the marathon frenzy49 in China has hugely boosted the sports industry in which sponsors like Nike are among the biggest winners.
And related industries like the catering50 business, accommodation, sports drinks and healthcare products also benefit from the increasingly popular sport.

French FM opens three-day talks before COP21French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius has opened three days of informal talks in Paris alongside environment ministers and representatives from nearly 70 countries.
He says the talks aim to find a path to compromise ahead of the UN climate conference.
"The objective of these three days of informal talks is to find the path to compromise on the largest possible number of subjects. There are indeed different options on which our technical negotiators are still struggling with. In particular, the large political questions. At our level, we therefore have to settle on, or at the very least suggest, how to decide between the many available choices."One key issue being discussed is financing, or how rich countries can provide financial and other support to help developing countries reduce emissions51.
Tony de Brum, foreign minister of the Marshall islands, says vulnerable nations like his should not be forgotten in the agreements.
"Well the most important thing at stake is the survival of my country. We need to get an agreement that is going to insure that the most vulnerable states will not be forgotten in the flurry of agreements and that we have the tools and the wherewithal to adapt and to build resiliency so that we can buy some time and allow the world to get climate change sane52 again."Organizers expect at least 40-thousand people, in addition to thousands of activists53 from environmental and other groups, to attend the climate conference in Paris.
It will gather 196 parties in the hopes of reaching an agreement to limit the rise in global temperatures.
A Wave of Violence remains54 without solutionAnchor:
Tensions between Palestinians and Israelis have been on the rise since October.
The West Bank city of Hebron is one of the hot spots of violence.
CRI's Victor Ning reports.
Reporter:
In Hebron, the largest city in the West Bank, Israel has set up more than 200 checkpoints, with over 100 surrounding the old city, where some 400 Jewish settlers, protected by 2,000 Israeli soldiers, live separately among 5,000 Palestinians.
Issa Amro, a Palestinian human rights defender55 and a resident of Hebron, says Israel has tightened57 security measures recently. Now only Palestinians who live in the old city can enter there after registration58.
"You have to register your name and ID number, and get a number at the checkpoint. I live inside the area, but I'm not allowed to go there, because I refuse to be a number. I am not a number. I am a human being. I don't need a permit to go in and out from my house, so I climb from walls and from neighborhoods and from fields to reach my house now."They city has been a flashpoint site during the recent upheaval59 since the start of October. Of over 70 Palestinians that have been killed by Israeli forces, some 30 are from Hebron.
Sheikh Abu Khader Jabari, leader of the largest Palestinian clan60 in Hebron, says the wave of violence is a translation of the frustration61 of the people due to the Israeli occupation.
"After so many years of peace talks without progress, people feel that there is no solution. On the contrary, Israelis are taking more lands from the Palestinians. If the Israeli policy will continue the way it is now, I think the Palestinians will continue their struggle, because they prefer dying with dignity to living under this harsh situation."No'am Arnon, spokesman for the Jewish settlements in Hebron, on the other hand, takes a hard line.
"We know there were and are still and will be security problems, it's not a surprise. We are not terrified. We decided62 to come to live here, to renew the Jewish life, and to make sure terror shall not win. We come here to live as a normal community. We did in the past and still today want to live in peace with neighbors who want to live in peace."However, Palestinians in Hebron say more Palestinian houses have recently been attacked by Jewish settlers. Issa Amro gives an example.
"Hundreds of settlers cut the fence to break into a Palestinian family. And the Israeli soldiers did nothing to stop the settlers who were blocking the door and who went to the roof. We put a big wood block behind the door. Everybody of the family was crying, (especially) the women. I called the Israeli police. I called everybody. Nobody came. For seven hours the family was crying."Palestinian Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah has recently called for Palestinian security forces to be allowed to patrol in certain areas of Hebron in order to provide "security and protection" for Palestinians, but this call has been rejected by Israel.
For CRI, I'm Victor Ning.
Netanyahu arrives in Washington for talks with ObamaIsraeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has arrived in Washington ahead of talks with U.S. President Barack Obama, who is expected to seek the PM's re-commitment to a two-state solution with the Palestinians.
Rare agreement between two long-bickering leaders is likely to be reached when Netanyahu and Obama meet on Monday for the first time since the signing of the Iran nuclear deal.
Their White House talks are believed an important step towards a new U.S. military aid package that could burnish63 the prime minister's security credentials64.
The meeting, the first between the two leaders in 13 months, could also underpin65 Obama's assurances that he has Israel's back and help deflect66 accusations67 from Republican presidential hopefuls that he and any Democrat68 successor are less pro-Israel.

CSRC to resume IPOs as market rebounds80 from routAnchor:
China's securities regulator has announced the resumption of initial public offerings on mainland exchanges, the first approvals since new IPOs were suspended in July.
The suspension was part of the emergency measures to contain a massive meltdown that sent the stock market plunging81 over 40 percent in just a few weeks.
The regulator says ten of the 28 companies that had already gained regulatory approval for their IPOs before the market rout23 will be among the first to launch IPOs, after Nov 20.
It has also announced a set of new measures to reform the current approval process for new IPOs, marking a further step toward a market-oriented listing system.
The measures include scrapping82 the requirement for full payment of shares in advance when an investor83 bids to subscribe84 to new shares.
The CSRC said this will prevent the IPOs from locking up too much capital.
At the same time, the regulator further simplified the pricing procedure for small-cap IPOs under 20 million shares, which will help reduce the financing costs of smaller companies.
For more on this issue, the Beijing Hour's Spencer Musick spoke5 to Mike Bastin, Director of The China Business Centre based in London.

Some highlights from the game came from Carmelo Anthony, when he sliced a dunk off an assist from Derrick Williams late in the opening quarter.
As the game moved forward the end of the first half Los Angeles led 49-45.
Early in the fourth, a contested jump by Bryant would put LA in the lead 78-74.
The teams would battle it out for top score, but in the last seconds of the game, a hail Mary misfire from Kobe Bryant would give the game to the knicks.
