Coming up:The U.S. and North Korea are pushing to salvage1 a summit between Donald Trump2 and Kim Jong Un planned for June 12 in Singapore.Donald Trump, after abruptly3 cancelled the meeting in a letter to Kim Jong Un last week, changed his mind 24 hours later. And now, the summit still appeared likely to go ahead.White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said on Wednesday the U.S. was still preparing for the meeting to take place on June 12, but also said a different day such as July 12 would be possible.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Pyongyang on Thursday. It is reported that Kim Jong-un told Lavrov he was committed to denuclearization of the Korean peninsula and he hoped this will be solved on "a stage-by-stage basis."Lavrov's visit came as US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and top North Korean official Kim Yong Chol held talks in New York. In the meantime, the 3rd inter-Korean ministerial talks of this year are underway at the truce5 village of Panmunjom. High-ranking officials from North and South Korea met on Friday to discuss how to implement6 agreements, including a joint7 declaration, reached by their leaders at a summit on April 27th.
