Hi, everyone, has marriage gone out of style? You might think so from statistics just released by the Census1 Bureau. For the first time in American history, married couples are minority, making up just 49. 7% of the population. That's a big change as one demographic expert put it, the Ozzie and Harriet era of the last century is over. And it's not just because more couples are living together; in fact, one of the fastest growing groups in America is called the LATS or LATs---couples living apart together. They are serious monogamies, but have separate homes. Why, well, blended families can be complicated so much for the Brady Bunch. And some people just want their independence. But researchers say marriage is still important to couples. They're just waiting longer to tie the knot. That could be good news with 50% of marriages ending in divorce. Maybe looking before your leap can actually lower that number. That's a page from my notebook. I'm Katie Couric, CBS news.
