Here's a story you may have to keep up a bit of an open mind for. Can one man heal sickness, transform lives simply with his eyes? Thousands of people turned out in Portland today to find out and to see the phenomenon known as Braco.
KATU's Anita Kissee set in on a gazing session. So this may seem a little odd there for some people.
It does for some but, for 15 years, Europeans by the bus load have flocked to see this man, he's now in the US, and Braco does not speak, does not touch, he simply stares. Some believe that gaze has power.
"And it's my honor and pleasure to introduce to you, Braco. "
Aristotle once said eyes are the mirrors of the soul, and this man's silent gaze--considered by many a miracle.
"You feel warm and tingly all over, and inspired, and full of love and light."
"Braco is a man from Croatia , an ordinary man with an extraordinary gift."
People packed this ballroom2 in Portland, hoping to be released from mental and physical pain, or their hearts' desires granted, not for the touch or soft word, simply with the positive energy they believe comes from Braco's healing gaze.
"First gazing I saw lights coming out from his eyes, and then the second gazing, I sat in the back, and I saw his aura, and it was just exerting brighter, brighter, and bigger".
"Very different for everyone, one person may feel heat, one person really feel nothing. Some people walk out, they go, "no way", and then suddenly something will shift for them, it's really unique."
Jane Sibbett likely looks familiar.
"I played Carol on Friends, Broco's ex-wife on Friends
She's now a producer for Braco's American tour. Touched by the miracles she says she's witnessed while shooting a documentary on him.
"I've noticed where my weaknesses are, and all of a sudden I feel it making, I know that something is going on."
"I don't feel any pain, actually I feel warmth all over."
"If I hadn't seen it for myself, I wouldn't believe it, I'd be with like most of the viewers, like "no way". He's not selling anything, he's not a religion, he's not a guru, he's not a master, he's nothing. he's not telling anyone how to live, he's just a servant, he's just serving the people.
People who pay eight dollars a gazing session.
"This is actually my third session. I planned to do all 9."
"You know, I think what, the world is about right now is opening your heart to believe in something besides what you know, and this is an opportunity to change your mind."
Braco has not spoken publicly in eight years, and he's never allowed outside cameras in, until today, he was so popular by the way, they had to add another gazing session tomorrow.
So you were there for couple of gazing sessions, did you feel anything at all?
You feel quite calm, the music is very nice, he seems like a very humble4 man and I did have my Powerball or my Mega Millions [Both are names for Lottery]ticket with me, and apparently5 Braco knew that that was not my true heart's desire, but working at KATU was, because I own that one number, so...
You're still gonna be here tomorrow.
