The World Health Organisation¹ has called on governments to ban all tobacco advertising². The appeal was issued to mark the UN Agency's global Anti-smoking Day. The WHO says restrictions³ already introduced are not enough to protect young people from increasingly sophisticated marketing⁴. From Geneva, Imogen Foulkes reports.

The WHO's survey revealed that most people start smoking before the age of 18, and almost a quarter of new smokers⁵ are under 10 years old. To protect them, the WHO says, a total ban is necessary. No tobacco advertising on bill boards, magazines, television, radio, the Internet or in films and no tobacco sponsoring of sporting events.

An airliner⁶ has crashed on landing in the Honduran capital, Tegucigalpa, killing⁷ at least 5 people. Dozens more were injured when the Airbus A320 overshot the runway and crashed down in back when it veered⁸ onto a street.
