The Chinese foreign ministry1 has issued a new statement, calling the hacking2 allegations groundless criticism, dubbing3 it "irresponsible and unprofessional."
The latest comments come following a report by a U.S. computer security company, which is accusing a secretive Chinese military unit of being behind a series of hacking attacks around the world.
Foreign ministry spokesperson Hong Lei says cyber crime, as an international problem, should be solved through international cooperation.
"China and the U.S. have maintained communication over the relevant issue. Yesterday I have already said that on the issue of Internet hacking attacks, China has always emphasized that all countries should, on the basis of mutual4 respect and mutual trust, engage in constructive5 international cooperation to tackle."
China's defense6 ministry is also entering the discussions, saying the country's armed forces have never backed any hacking activities.
The official statement has been carried on China Central Television.
"Hacking is an international problem, like other countries, China is also facing severe threats of cyber attacks. China is one of the most hit hacking victims in the world. The Chinese law forbids hacking or any activity that sabotage7 cyber security. The Chinese government has been consistently and resolutely8 cracking down on relevant criminal activities. The Chinese army has never supported any hacking activity. Statements about the Chinese army engaging in cyber attacks are unprofessional and not in line with facts."
The report by US computer security company Mandiant comes a week after U.S. President Barack Obama issued an executive order aimed at getting the private owners of critical infrastructure9 to share data on attacks.
The report also follows accusations10 by a number of major US media outlets11 that Chinese hackers12 have been targeting their computers.
China is among several countries which submitted an international code of conduct on information security to the United Nations back in 2011.
