Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says his new government is ready to make a "historic compromise" by meeting with Palestinians for peace talks.
Netanyahu says he hopes to renew peace talks, after little progress has been made during his past four-year term:
"Administration extends its hand in peace to the Palestinians. With a Palestinian partner who is willing to conduct negotiations1 in good faith, Israel will be prepared for a historic compromise that will end the conflict with the Palestinians forever."
However, not all agree with Netanyahu's vision of peace.
Saeb Erekat, a Palestinian negotiator, says rhetoric2 and working towards real peace are two separate things.
Even Avigdor Lieberman, a powerful ally of the prime minister, says anyone who believes peace can be reached with the Palestinians is "delusional3."
The Palestinians refused to negotiate with Netanyahu during his last term as Israel continued to build homes in Jewish settlements in the West Bank and east Jerusalem.
It has been reported, U.S. President Barack Obama will be meeting separately with the Israelis and Palestinians in hopes to find some common ground.
There are no plans for the three to meet together.
