　　How do you learn English? Or French, Russian,German,Chinese or any other languages? Most people go to classes regularly², and study at home with a book.But the problem for adult learners is that they are busy people who find it hard to come to classes at a fixed³ time.They miss a few classes and then decide that they have fallen too far behind the other students.Eventually they drop out of the class altogether.

　　There are various resources⁴ available which the students can use alone or in a small group.There's a language laboratory⁵; there are microcomputers⁶ with games and other programs designed for language learning.There are video-cassettes which teach students about the life and language of a country.

　　A:You speak good English,though.

　　B:Thanks,but I speak English with a strong German accent.

　　A:But let me tell you,you're doing just fine.I couldn't do half as well as you do when I was learning German.By the way,how long have you been learning English?

　　Do you know how many languages there are in the world?There are about one thousand and five hundred,but many of them are not very important.English is one of the most important languages because so many people use it, not only in England and America,but in other countries of the world.

　　Many English children study French.French is also a very important language.Some children study German, Russian,Japanese and Chinese.

　　Which is the best way to learn a language? We know that we all learnt our own language well when we were children.We can learn a second language in the same way, it won't seem so difficult. How does a child do? He or she listens to what people say and tries to guess what he or she hears.When he or she wants something, he or she has to ask for it.He or she is using the language, thinking in it and talking in it all the time.If people use a second language all the time, they will learn it quickly.
