　　序数词是数词的一种，表示为“第几”。

　　其中1st，2nd，3rd为特殊形式，其他的都是阿拉伯数字后加th。

　　3. 句法功能

　　序数词在句中可作主语、宾语、定语和表语。

　　The second is what I really need.

　　第二个是我真正需要的。（作主语）

　　He chooses the second.

　　他挑选了第二个。（作宾语）

　　We are to carry out the first plan⁴.

　　我们将执行第一个计划。（作定语）

　　She is the second in our class.

　　在我们班她是第二名。（作表语）

　　注：序数词在使用时，通常前面要加定冠词the；但是如果序数词前出现不定冠词a或an时，则表示“再......”，“又......”。

　　We'll go over it a second time.

　　我们再念第二遍。

　　We've tried it three times. Must we try it a fourth time?

　　我们已经试过三遍了，还必须再试一次（第四次）吗？

　　5. 不用the的情况

　　在英语中，使用序数词时前面要加定冠词 the，但是，在下面的情况下则不加 the：

　　(1) 当序数词前有形容词性物主代词或名词所有格修饰时，序数词前不用 the。

　　Mother was⁵ my first teacher in my life⁶.

　　妈妈是我生命中的第一个老师。

　　(2) 当表达分数时，序数词前不用 the。

　　One fifth of the students here are from the country.

　　这儿1/5的学生来自农村。

　　Three fourths⁷ of the students here are from the country.

　　这儿的3/4的学生来自农村。

　　(3) 当表达“又一，再一”时，序数词前不用 the，但可加不定冠词。

　　Please give me a second chance⁸.

　　请再给我一次机会。

　　The poor woman had⁹ a third baby.

　　那个可怜的妇女又生了第三个宝宝。

　　(4) 当表达“年月日”时，序数词前不用the。

　　He was born¹⁰ on June 6th, 1974.

　　他出生在1974年6月6日。

　　(5) 当序数词在句中作状语时，序数词前不用 the。

　　Who got¹¹ there second?

　　谁第二个到那儿的？

　　I finished¹² the work first.

　　我最先完成那项工作。

　　(6) 当表达考试（赛跑等）中获得的名次时，序数词前不用 the。

　　She stands first in her class.

　　她在班上成绩排名第一。

2 fifth   

num.第五；n.五分之一

参考例句：

• It's the fifth door on the right.右边第五个门。
• I like to sit in about the fifth row.我想坐在第五排左右。

3 twentieth   

n.二十分之一；num./adj.第二十

参考例句：

• Tomorrow is her twentieth birthday.明天是她二十岁生日。
• He is the twentieth on the list.在名单上他是第二十个。

4 plan   

n.计划，策略，方法；v.计划，设计，意欲

参考例句：

• What do you plan to do during the holidays?你打算在假期里做什么？
• I talked with him about our plan,and he wanted in.我同他谈了我们的计划，他想参加。

5 was   

v.(is,am的过去式)是，在

参考例句：

• He said he was right.他说他是正确的。
• He was cold and hungry.他又冷又饿。

6 life   

n.生活；生命

参考例句：

• The doctor came in time to save his life.医生及时来抢救他的生命。
• At last he knew the meaning of life.终于，他知道了生命的意义。

7 fourths   

n.第四( fourth的名词复数 )

参考例句：

• The ranch castrated three-fourths of its male calves. 牧场把四分之三的小公牛都阉割了。 来自《简明英汉词典》
• Three-fourths of the public say they favor a national referendum on the issue. 四分之三的公众表示希望就这个问题进行全民公决。 来自辞典例句

8 chance   

n.机会，意外；运气；风险；vi.偶然发生；vt.偶然发生，冒险

参考例句：

• We will take a chance to have the party outdoor.我们将冒险举行露天聚会。
• This is the last chance any of us has.对于我们中的任何人来说，这是最后的一次机会。

9 had   

vbl.have的过去式和过去分词；conj.有

参考例句：

• I just had a good idea!我有个好主意！
• The boy had a small branch of a tree in his hand.这个男孩手上拿一条小树枝。

10 born   

v.动词bear的过去分词；adj.出生的，与生俱来的

参考例句：

• The baby can cry as soon as he is born.婴儿生下来就会哭。
• I feel as if I had been born again.我有一种再生之感。

11 got   

v.(get的过去式)得到，猜到，明白

参考例句：

• I just got some bad news.我刚得到一些坏消息。
• I have got far too much work to do.我要做的事太多了。

12 finished   

adj.完成的，精湛的；v.动词finish的过去式和过去分词

参考例句：

• We finished up everything there was on the table. 我们把桌上的东西全吃完了。
• We can certainly have the job finished on time.我们肯定能按时完成任务。
