The picture describes a prevailing2 phenomenon—young teens’ addiction3 to net-surfing. We can see that in the picture the young boy is totally absorbed in what is in the net to the exclusion4 of all the other things. Judging from his weary face, we can infer he must have been on line for a long time. Looking at this, we can not help feeling rather discouraged and concerned.
Admittedly, internet provides us with information, convenience and sometimes excitements if we can put it into proper uses. And people have accomplished5 a lot with the help of this modern invention. However, as every coin has two sides, so does internet. Depending on how we use it, it can be both beneficial and detrimental6. If we fail to make appropriate use of it, troubles will occur. Teens are not able to concentrate on their studies once they are addicted7 to internet and as result their studies will turn to frustrations8 and failures. Such phenomena9 as playing truants10 and dropping out of school after being addicted to websites are already commonplace. And some even resort to violence and crime because of the influence of unhealthy content of some illegal sites.
Teens’ abuse of, and addiction to net-surfing is already a grave problem. This is something we can choose not to see but we cannot choose not to know. People from all walks of life should turn their attention to the situation and come up with some good ideas to cope with it. It is time for us to do something to provide our children with a wholesome11 climate so that they can grow up healthy and strong.
