1. Fourteen US troops have been killed in eastern and southern Afghanistan in the past three days. They include seven American service members who were killed today in two separate roadside bomb attacks.

2. Hurricane Earl is getting stronger, it's headed for the Virgin Islands in Puerto Rico, then it could brush the US mid-Atlantic region. Even if it doesn't reach the coast, the area is likely to see some pounding surf.

3. Roger Clemens has pled not guilty to charges of lying to Congress about using steroids or human growth hormone. The arraignment happened a few blocks away from where the retired player swore under oath to Congress that he had not used performance-enhancing drugs.

4. An arrest report says Paris Hilton denied owning the purse in which police say they found cocaine after a traffic stop. Police say Hilton said she owned lip balm and an asthma medication found in the purse, but she denied that the cocaine and purse were hers
