[00:56.24]in a very dangerous situation
[00:58.84]while climbing in Utah in April 2003.
[01:03.18]But Aron--a 27-year-old American with a deep
[01:06.39]interest in mountain climbing
[01:08.35]was not ready to die that day.
[01:10.73]And in order to save his own life,

[01:16.89]Aron's arm became trapped under a 2,000-kilo
[01:20.54]rock that fell on him while he was climbing
[01:22.59]alone in the mountains.

[01:27.05]he lay for five days and hoped to be found.
[01:31.14]But when his water ran out,
[01:33.32]he knew that he would have to do
[01:34.97]something to save his own life.
[01:37.40]With his pocketknife,
[01:38.91]he cut off his right arm below the elbow.
[01:42.07]Then, with his left arm,
[01:44.34]he bandaged himself to stop the bleeding,
[01:47.18]and after that he climbed down
[01:48.78]the mountainside to find help.
[01:51.65]As an adventurer, Aron has learned to take risks
[01:55.06]This is part of the excitement of doing
[01:56.98]dangerous sports.
[01:58.54]He has had many accidents in his life:
[02:01.17]once, he had to dig himself out of an avalanche
[02:04.54]He nearly lost his life that time,
[02:07.07]but his will to survive saved him again.
