[00:01.56]In 1892, brothers Orville and Wilbur Wright
[00:05.32]opened a bicycle-repair company.
[00:07.68]The brothers were specialists in this area,
[00:10.05]but they were more interested
[00:11.26]in something else-aircraft.
[00:13.79]The brothers used the company to support their
[00:16.14]flying machine research and experiments.
[00:19.26]There were many people trying to build
[00:21.08]flying machines at the time.
[00:23.08]The brothers studied them
[00:24.37]and began their experiments in 1899.
[00:27.64]On December 17, 1903,
[00:30.52]Orville made the first flight
[00:32.65]in their plane,the Flyer 1,
[00:35.25]and he flew 39 metres in 12 seconds.
[00:39.02]Wilbur piloted the plane later that day
[00:41.76]and flew it 279 metres in 59 seconds.
[00:46.60]During their research,
[00:47.84]the Wright brothers always worked together.
[00:50.58]They made great contributions
[00:52.21]to the development of aircraft.
