1. Economists expect unemployment figures released this morning will show steady jobs growth. Analysts predict about 185,000 jobs were added last month, saying overall jobless rate of 8.9%. One economist says the labor market recovery is gathering momentum.
2. High winds and heavy rain tore through central Florida. A festival tent collapsed, injuring seven people. There were several reports of tornadoes touching down in the Tampa area.
3. Libya's opposition leader says rebels will accept a ceasefire if leader Moammar Gadhafi pulls his forces back from cities. Gadhafi's troops have spent much of the week pushing back rebels, and sometimes sending them running. But the opposition fighters seem to have more weapons and communications equipment today.
4. And a happy moment for earthquake-ravaged Japan. Two giant pandas finally made their public debut in a Tokyo zoo today to the delight of thousands of visitors. Many people were bussed in from disaster evacuation centers for the event. |
