1. Daylight video shows the area around the compound where Osama Bin Laden was killed during a US raid in Pakistan. President Barack Obama announced the raid last night from the White House, saying no Americans were hurt in the operation. Bin Laden's body was retrieved and later buried at sea.
2. Reaction to the death of Bin Laden has been swift. Thousands gathered outside the White House shortly after the news broke. Many waved American flags and cheered. There was a similar scene at Ground Zero. New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg says Bin Laden's death doesn't lessen the suffering of 9/11 but it is a critically important victory.
3. Some local law enforcement agencies are increasing security measures following the death of the world's most wanted terrorist. Officials in New York and New Jersey say they are adding more police at airports, bridges and the World Trade Center site. Police in Los Angeles and Philadelphia also are being more vigilant.
4. Former President George W. Bush congratulated President Obama after hearing about Bin Laden's death. He also congratulated the intelligence community and military for accomplishing their mission. |
