Germany beats Nigera 1-0 at FIFA Women World Cup(在线收听) |
BERLIN, June 30 (Xinhua) -- Host and defending world champion Germany sealed quarterfinal spot with the second win in group A, owing the decider by midfielder Simone Laudehr in front of 48,817 spectators in Frankfurt on Thursday. In a rough match with many fouls, Germany seemed impressed by the tough style of play by Nigeria, thus made it impossible for the host to develop their style of play, and both sides took a draw into the break.
After the break, Germany pilled on the pressure to enforce the winner at the 54th minute as Laudehr utilized a follow up shot from penalty area to eliminate Nigeria from the tournament, as they remained incapable to threat German defence with their long-range efforts.
In group A, France currently occupies top position with six points followed by Germany on second with six but with a weaker goal difference. Nigeria sits on third and Canada on fourth with zero points.
"Due to the foul plays, we never came into play. Anyway, we have not staged a good game but we are still happy to have reached next round," German coach Sylvia Neid said after the match.(本文由在线英语听力室整理编辑) |
