A central Queensland vet has died from Hendra virus in the Brisbane hospital. Dr. Alister Rodgers contracted the virus while treating sick horses at a property near Rockhampton last month. He and three property workers had a trial of antiviral drugs in Rockhampton. But he was flown to Brisbane after becoming seriously ill.

The New South Wales Opposition will try to force an earlier election by moving the vote of no confidence in the Labor Government today. It follows the resignation of John Della Bosca as Health Minister, after revelations he had an affair with a 26-year-old woman. Opposition Leader Barry O’Farrell says it’s the final straw for state’s voters.

The Victorian Water Minister Tim Holding is expected to leave hospital today, after spending two nights lost in the state’s alpine region. He was rescued yesterday after falling down a ridge while hiking on Mount Feathertop. Mr. Holding suffered only minor cuts and bruises. That was kept under observation over night.

And ceremonies had been held across Europe to mark the seventieth anniversary of the start of the 2nd World War. European Leaders gathered in Poland to remember the millions of people who lost their lives. German Chancellor Angela Merkel said no words could express the suffering caused by Adolf Hitler’s Nazi regime.
