Malcolm Turnbull's Liberal leadership is in disarray after a mass exodus of MPs from frontbench and whip positions. Their rebellion is expected to cost Mr. Turnbull the leadership at a meeting on Monday. Joe Hockey is understood to be a candidate, but he won't run against Mr. Turnbull. Tony Abbott is also expected to contest.

After 15 months in captivity, the freed hostages Nigel Brennan and Amanda Lindhout are now in Nairobi. Mr. Brennan is reported to be recovering in hospital. It's been revealed Greens Senator Bob Brown and  millionaire businessman Dick Smith both stepped in to help the Brennan family pay the ransom demanded by the kidnappers. Dick Smith declined to detail the extent of his assistance. He says he felt compelled to help the family after their frustrated efforts in seeking help from the Federal Government.

And the ABC has picked up several honors in this year's Walkley Awards (which were nominated--播音员口误 )which were dominated by stories dealing with the Black Saturday bushfires. Samantha Donovan won a Walkley for her coverage of the aftermath of the disaster, the night's highest accolade- the Gold Walkley went to Australia's Gary Hughes for his personal account of the event.
