Mohamed Haneef will be returning to India, a happy man after agreeing to a compensation deal with the Federal Government. The Indian-born doctor was detained for more than three weeks in 2007 when he was wrongly accused of being involved in a terrorist attack in Scotland. He has agreed to drop all legal action in return for the confidential payout. 

 

Some ticket inspectors in Victoria have been caught out beating up fare evaders. The state's ombudsman has released CCTV footage showing inspectors getting violent with people who haven't bought tickets. He says he's shocked by the treatment and is recommending tougher screening for anyone wanting to be an inspector.

 

And the floodwaters are receding, but the dangers are not over yet. Residents in Western Australia's flood-drenched north are being warned to remain on alert as the water drains away. And the strains of the last few days are beginning to show Carnarvon residents are starting to ask why more hadn't been done to ease the severity of floods.

 

And last night's lunar eclipse was an anticlimax for some keen sky-gazers. Cloud cover spoiled the rare event for some in Brisbane where the best views were promised. They had been hoping to see the Moon bathed in a blood-red hue.
