Lindsay Lohan ordered to be sent to jail for 30 days(在线收听) |
LOS ANGELES, Nov. 2 (Xinhua) -- Troubled U.S. actress Lindsay Lohan, who has admitted to having violated her probation in grand theft and drunk-driving cases by failing to show up for court- ordered community-service appointments and therapy sessions, was ordered by a Los Angeles judge to spend 30 days in jail on Wednesday. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Stephanie Sautner, at a Wednesday hearing to determine if Lohan has violated her probation terms, found the actress liable for the violation, and gave her two choices -- spend 300 days in jail, or do community service at the morgue and therapy sessions and spend 30 days in jail.
The 25-year-old actress chose to spend 30 days in county jail plus doing community service and attending therapy sessions.
A deputy city attorney told Sautner that Lohan had canceled 12 of 20 scheduled appointments at the Downtown Women's Center. On some of the dates she did attend, but didn't stay for the required four hours. The actress was kicked out of the center due to her bad performance.
The prosecutor also said Lohan had canceled 14 of 19 scheduled counseling sessions.
Judge Sautner ordered Lohan to report to the Los Angeles women' s jail, or Century Regional Detention Facility, by Nov. 9, and said that the "Mean Girls" star is not entitled to "house arrest, electronic monitoring, and any other early release other than that required by the law."
The remaining 270 days of the jail sentence will be stayed, as long as the actress adheres to a specific schedule of community service work at the Los Angeles County Morgue and therapy sessions, the judge ruled.
The judge has set out a rigid structure for Lohan to stand by, which showed how the actress must complete the rest of her required community service and therapy sessions.
According to the schedule, Lohan must complete the remainder of the work by March 29, or she risks going directly to jail for 270 days, as the judge will put a warrant out for her arrest.
"The sentence I'm going to impose is known in our circles as putting the keys to the jail in the defendant's hands," Sautner said.
Lohan was placed on three years probation and ordered to spend 120 days in jail, and complete 480 hours of community service stemming from her previous probation in a 2007 drunk-driving case, after she pleaded no contest on May 11 to a misdemeanor grand theft charge involving a 2,500-dollar necklace that was taken from a Venice jewelry store. |
