COPENHAGEN, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- The 19-year-old Danish soccer talent Christian Eriksen was selected as national "Player of the Year" by an overwhelming majority here on Monday. The midfielder, one of the brilliant stars in Danish football, received 60.6 percent of the votes and won the Danish football award comfortably by beating William Dormer, MichaelKrohn-Dehli and Niki Zimling.
The young player was clearly proud and moved by the title as the award was given by former Spanish national team hero, the 48-year-old Emilio Butragueno.
"I am extremely honored to be here today. I did not expect to reach this far and to stand here in front of you as Player of the Year. This really means a lot to me," said Eriksen, adding that he must forward the glory to his teammates and coaches in Ajax and the Danish national team.

Eriksen joined Ajax in October 2008, and made his debut for the national team in March 2010. He was the youngest player in the FIFA World Cup 2010 in South Africa. |
