The competition regulator says there's a good chance Telstra's structural separation plan will be approved early next year. The plan will see Telstra split its wholesale and retail arms to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission as part of the role out of the national broadband network. The ACCC says the new revised plan from Telstra has addressed many areas of initial concern. Apple has lost a High Court bid to stop Samsung selling its Galaxy tablet computer in Australia. Apple says Samsung's Galaxy range of tablets and smartphones is too similar to its iPad and iPhone. But the High Court has ruled in Samsung's favour, saying arguments from Apple's lawyers had insufficient prospects of success.
China's rate of inflation has fallen in November to its lowest pace in 14 months. The country's consumer price index rose by 4.2 per cent in the year to November, according to the National Bureau of Statistics. Analysts say this creates more room for authorities to ease monetary policy and encourage economic growth.
Checking the markets now, local shares finished lower as uncertainty continues over Europe. The All Ordinaries index fell 1.7 per cent. The ASX 200 dropped 78 points to 4,203. European markets have closed higher. The FTSE 100 was up 45 points. |
