European leaders in Brussels have signed a new treaty designed to prevent the 17 Euro-zone countries from living beyond their means.Beliefs hope the accord will also prevent a repeat of the crippling debt crisis, which led to the bailouts of Greece,Ireland and Portugal. It's also held the deal will lead to close political and economic ties.Britain and Czech Republic refuse to agree to the deal. An inquiry into the Australian media has recommended an new council to oversee all media organizations. The new media council would be government-founded and would regulate print, radio,TV and, for the first time, online. The inquiry was setup in the wake of the UK phone hacking scandal to investigate media practices and regulations in Australia. The Journalists Union, has delivered a highly critical assessment of the inquiry, saying a single regulator across all news media flies in the face of independent journalism.
And check the markets. To the closed European markets, the FTSE was down about 20 points,as was the DAX.And at the end of the trading week, across the Atlantic, the DOW finished down just slightly, along with the S&P500 and NASDAQ.
And check the currencies, the Aussie dollar is,worth just over 107 US cents. |
