VIENNA, May 9 (Xinhua) -- The Austrian Olympic Committee (OeOC) nominated a further 13 athletes for its 2012 London Olympic Games team on Wednesday, bringing the total to 37 athletes across 12 sporting disciplines. OeOC President Karl Stoss said he plans for a final team count of "at least" 70 athletes, an OeOC press release stated.
The third and final round of nominations will take place on July 6, with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) requiring submission of a finalized team list by July 9.
The London Olympics will run from July 27 to August 12, and while Austria is traditionally stronger at the Winter Olympic Games - picking up only a silver and two bronze medals at the 2008 Beijing Summer Games - hopes remain high of a medal chance.8 The canoe doubles team of Yvonne Schuring and Viktoria Schwarz are amongst the medal favorites, since they had won gold at the 2011 World Championships in Szeged, Hungary in the 500 meters event. |
