DUBAI, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) -- Two-time Olympic gold medalist Sun Yang shined at the Asian Championships here on Thursday as he claimed the title of men's 200 freestyle event with a new championship record. The 21-year-old Sun, who settled with a silver in this very event in London Games this summer, clocked one minute, 45.49 seconds to clinch the gold, leading with a 4.18-second margin ahead of his teammate Hao Yun, who finished with the silver.
Sun's record-breaking feat marked a triumphant night for China in which eight out of the 10 swimming golds went to China while the other two continental swimming giants Japan and South Korea did not send their top swimmers to Dubai.
Sun won the 400m and 1,500m freestyle gold medals at London Olympics to become the first ever Chinese male swimmer to win an Olympics gold and he also set a new world record in the 1500m event. |
