The White House says the US economy is continuing to recover despite weaker-than-expected jobs figures. Ninety-six thousand jobs were created last month, around 40,000 fewer than predicted. The republican presidential nominee Mick Romney says the figures show Barack Obama has failed to deliver on his promise to lead America back to prosperity. The Obama administration says the economy is continuing to recover from the worst downturn since the Great Depression. China is promising to establish a natural carbon trading market by the end of the decade. A government official made the announcement during the Third Annual Earth Temple Forum in Beijing. China says technological improvements over the past seven years have led to it saving 1.7 billion tons of carbon dioxide.
Around 1,000 Lufthansa flight attendants have marched on the airline's headquarters in Frankfurt Airport as part of a 24-hour strike over pay. Lufthansa has cancelled over 1,000 flights after cabin crew walked off the job at airports across Germany. It's left an estimated 100,000 passengers stranded. The flight attendants are in a long-running pay dispute with Germany's largest airline, which is struggling to compete against budget carriers. |
