瑞士国会议员再次拒绝美国的税收法案 GENEVA, June 19 (Xinhua) -- Switzerland's National Council (lower house) rejected on Wednesday a draft law that would have allowed Swiss banks to cooperate with the United States and hand over confidential data to the U.S. for cracking down on suspected tax cheats, local media reported. Lawmakers voted 123 to 63, with four abstentions against the bill backed by the government. Swiss Federal Council must find another solution to the tax dispute with the U.S., said Swiss news agency ATS.
Earlier on Tuesday, the National Council already voted not to discuss the bill by 126-67 with two abstentions. With the new rejection, the bill was finally buried by the Parliament.
Opponents of the bill argued that the deal could set a precedent for other countries waiting to put pressure on Switzerland.
However, a parliamentary declaration was approved Wednesday recognizing the need for Swiss banks to come clear with the U.S. over tax matters of the past.
The statement called on the government to allow individual banks to hand over confidential data to the U.S., temporarily suspending banking secrecy rules, according to local media. |
