2. The famously outspoken New York city mayor who rescued the Big Apple from near-financial ruin has died. Ed Koch was 88. Koch was admitted to the hospital Monday and was moved to intensive care on Thursday. 

 

3. Mexico authorities are promising a thorough investigation into Thursday's explosion at the headquarters of its state-owned oil company. The Mexico City blast killed at least 25 people and injured more than 100. Rescue workers are still searching for survivors. 

 

4. A select group of inmates from an upstate New York prison are helping to build a giant ice palace - the centerpiece of the annual Saranac Lake Winter Carnival. Ice palaces have been a winter feature in the mountain village since 1898.
